A pilot that hasn’t passed their probationary proficiency check does not have full union protection. But the company tends to treat them as if they do and allows union representation during meetings between pilots and managemnt. Regardless, the term “Section 19” is probably being used as a catchall phrase in this instance and the outcome of that “investigation” is based solely on the decisions of management. Fact is, if you have problems during your first year (training, dependability, behavioral, flying skills, etc) you’ll be talking to management and they alone will decide if you are to remain an employee or be terminated.

I don’t know any details, but the original question was posed with regard to a new hire. The point I was trying to make is that it sounds like it’s being handled in the same way it would for any probationary pilot no matter what the reason is they find themselves in hot water.

it could be either but the fact that it’s 6 pilots leads me to believe sec 11. Did 6 pilots go make a TikTok video together? Wouldn’t surprise me. That would be a sec 19.

Rumor is 6, maybe more, new hires got section 19'd last week. Sent home just before being signed off for check ride and sat in the dark for 3-4 weeks while training/ST and JO decided what to do with them, until last week's Sec 19 hearings, and last I heard they're still waiting on their decision. Seems our training department has been on the decline for awhile. Not like we can afford to let new hires go.

Yeah. Who knows? I think our training department is doing a fairly good job based on the newbie’s I’m flying with. That’s all I can really go by. Besides refusing to pass someone that shouldn’t pass is what’s supposed to happen. That’s not a failure on the training department.

I agree. Just more schoolyard gossip if you ask me. Some people will inevitably struggle because they don't come in with enough experience. Our training program seems to cater to those with more experience.

I know it was 10 sims. I think it might have been lowered to 8 with some ftd’s? That should be plenty and I’ll guess it’s up there with the most industry wide. At some point you need to start performing or it’s just negative learning.
