Current class is all at Courtyard until FTDs start, then its Wooleys. Depending on how many days gap between indoc ending and FTDs starting, they may not pay for hotels in between. "You're making lots of money, you can pay for your own hotels" was the sentiment from an F9 training instructor the other day, at least in reference to getting in the night before a trip while commuting.

Doubtful though. Nov class saw it hit their accounts several days into Indoc. Since the offer was pre-employment and signed prior to starting (they were real particular about getting it signed and returned prior to a certain day, well in advance of the first day of class). Signed and offered prior to hire date so I think it’s obvious the intent was pre-employment. Not a defense of the “bonus,” just saying it’s obvious that argument would have no legs to stand on.

A pre employment bonus that takes 3 years to earn is not a pre employment bonus.

I hope our ALPA lawyers are fighting this.

It didn’t take 3 years to earn. It was paid immediately, just has strings attached. It’s not uncommon out in the real world. It varies, whether it’s prorated or the full amount is due. Either way, repayment upon early separation is a thing. It sounds like most people in my class took it, and immediately invested it into one form or another of low risk liquid or semi-liquid vessels (i bonds, CD, HYSA, etc). If they all stick around, the $35 (now 50) is worth more; if they bail, it probably out-earned the 4% interest and they can pay it back plus the interest when they’re off to Delta.

Again, not a fan of how it was handled. But everyone insists management is nefarious (agreed) so it’s not like they’re just going to blunder through a legally-ambiguous loophole or “oopsy.” They’re shrewd, not stupid.

Obviously a 3 year tether isn’t going to make someone just stay for a while. Since again, you can either earn a decent return on the bonus or return it if you resign. One way I’ve heard it is that cadets/program get essentially that much via a CFI stipend and ATP CTP costs. If those guys and gals are bound to a 3 year commitment, it’ll be harder for them to bail and repay on their own. But also, hired into your first jet with 0 Turbine time, you’re going to spend a while here anyway before United or other will call. The entire “bonus” scheme is stupid. I’d have rather seen that money rolled into actual permanent payscale across the board. But I’d like to see a lot of things, mentioned over in that other thread. Hopefully we get it in the next contract.

Timeline question for you new hires, how long after completing the online assignment did it take for you to hear back?
TIA

This is one of the silliest things you’ve written since joining this company. The strings being you haven’t earned it yet. The real world?? What do you think this is? Make believe?

I gotta tell ya, I’ve never heard of a “signing bonus” requiring a payback plus interest, and this is my third industry. That’s a loan.

The string attached being it takes you 3 years to earn the bonus.

If you leave at 2 years and 364 days what happens? You have to pay it back. So it takes you 3 years to earn this bonus. This is 100% circumnavigating our contact that says all bonuses must be paid to all employees on property. BB/BL have made it clear they value their toilet paper more than our contact. Welcome to Frontier.

If you were in October / November class, what did your IOE wait look like?

What year will you pay taxes on it? I will venture to say that is the year it is earned/paid.
