I have another theory. This is straight out of the Frank Lorenzo playbook. It’s cheaper to pay a few guys a lot extra for open flying than it is to be properly staffed and DEFINITELY cheaper than a new contract. At the same time, it’s a great way to divide the pilots. Most guys are starting to realize that incentivized and JA trips may help in the short term but they keep us in this negotiation longer as the pressure on the company is relieved. Others, however, do not see this and jump all over it. This keeps the fires put out and also frustrates the majority of the pilots. For the company it’s a win-win.
