Default Flight Options Questions

A few questions for you Flight Options guys. I sent out my on-line resume for NJ and FO on the same day. I rx a app pkg from NJ the other day but have not heard from FO yet.

1. Does FO operate the same way that HR will send an app pkg if they are interested in a further look?

2. Can you pick one of those 15 domiciles currently or are they "placing" new hires?

3. Any jump seat privelages currently or expecting? Someone posted further down on another thread that Airtran is currently jumpseating with you guys.

4. Quick pros and cons of your company form a pilot perspective?

hey quailman, how long ago did you send you resume to NJ? also,did you mail it or email it? (I'm curious becaus I have never heard from them and have send them a bunch of resumes over the past few years)

Greedy, I sent then a resume on-line about the second week of March. Got an app in the mail a week later. Took a few days to complete. After NJ had it about three weeks I got a letter stating that they have reviewed my app and that they will not be offering me an interview. That kind of surprised me as I've read in places that typically if you get the app then they want to interview you. To give you my background, I am a military pilot onlyand have flown B-707's, C-12's amongst others and currently fly the DC-9. I have over 2900TT and 1400 PIC with their military multiplier. I also have a bachelors and masters degree as well as my FE written. I am not sure what drove the nail in my coffin. Low time, putting my current FE written on my resume since they do not require it and figure that I would jump to FEDEX, checking the box that I am not willing to move, or being honest upfront and writing that I had two speeding tickets in 2004 when I first moved to Virginia, my first in over eight years. Maybe a combo of all four. I think I saw a post of yours somewhere else where you have over 6000TT. I do not know why they have not sent you an app unless your hours are not what is today considered "quality." I did not have anyone there working for me. But after reading the letter from FLOPS mgmt, it appears that maybe the fractionals are not the wave of the future they appeared to be post 9-11. Good luck in your search. yup, I got the same "we don't offer you an interview" about 3 years ago, maybe I had too much heavy time for their liking.......now I have even more so they won't even send me an app. it seems they are more random at offering interviews and sending apps than United was on its hayday....but they offer interviews to 2500 hours cfi's with 1,000 hours of 1900 time......go figure

The lowest time new hire I have flown with this year had over 9000TT. Just finished a IOE for a new hire that was 52 y.o. retired of the 767 from Delta with 20,000+. The stats I have heard is that the average new hire TT is 7000, most with 121 exp. Thats all I know

when I got denied my interview 3 yaers ago they where hiring regional FO's....and a friend got hired as a captain with barely any 121PIC TIME....kinda weird . I have seen postings here of guys with a lot less than 7000tt and not much PIC 121 if any getting interviews.....like I said, I didn't even received an aplication since I got denied the interview 3 years ago.

Things have really changed since the TA was voted in, but you are correct, 3 years ago that was the case, many regional and major furloughees. Now it seems guys are getting hired with lots of TT and 121.

I would agree that they seem to be only hiring high timers right now but lets remember that if 7k is the avg then there are people whose flight times fall on both sides of the bell curve. My 2900TT was on my resume so why send me the app. Older guys (50+) with 121 time have been at this business for along time and have seen many a "stable" airline go belly up. The company may be taking a gamble that these guys are tired of bouncing around from company to company chasing the paycheck as they no longer have enough years left before 60 to make the top pay tiers anyway. Guys in their thirties still have time to move and maybe they are losing these kind of guys to FedEx, JB, SW, etc. and no longer want to take the hit on the training $$. Let's face it, mgmt will never disclose why you were not hired or offered an app/interview for fear of a lawsuit since people sue now for race, age, gender, sexuality etc. these days. To me I was an ideal candidate: Young (relative) military pilot who was responsible to take a $150 mil national asset on deployment around the world for multiple weeks at a time while answering to a National Command Authority for both aircrew and aircraft reliability as well as mission accomplishment with embarked flag officers looking over your shoulder (literally from the jumpseat). My next jobs were logistics flying both personnel and cargo to anywhere it needed to go. These personnel included mega VIP's and USO show personnel. I am used to customer service and getting to the right destination safely and expeditiously. Like I said, I may never know why I was not offered an interview. Getting the small, thin envelope reminded me of the days of college denial letters. Luck to all in this crazy business.

quail, checking the box that you will not move was the nail in the coffin. you met the mins, and your experience, is more than enough to get your foot in the door. There are other fracs who are willing to give you a chance. You just have to move.
