Default CitationShares "Merit" Upgrade

I have recently heard that willingness to do OT days equals quicker upgrade and that if management simply doesn't like you equals longer upgrade time. Anyone from CS care to chime in on this "merit" system? I've heard recently that average upgrade is about 24 mo., true?

they have started estimating upgrades to be closer to 2 1/2 years, but others are going to have to chime in on the overtime vs upgrade issue. I think the official word is that it's not true. Of course if someone is simply not ready to upgrade, they will be passed up and some may interpret that as "not being liked".

Not to hijack the thread, but check out the thread on Flightinfo.com related to the supposed firing of a CS pilot who couldn't get time off to attend his grandfather's funeral. Not sure if it actually happened but it would be disturbing if that was the case. Perhaps someone at CS could confirm. Netjets' union (of course not the perfect remedy in all cases) at least provides some protection and fewer vague "grey areas" open to subjective opinions. That is one huge difference between the two operations that should be considered.

Good luck.

I have taken off for a grandfather's funeral very recently. The problem comes with the untold story. The goober probably didnt show up for work or provided no proof of death. I know it sucks they ask for it but hey just grab the little bulletin at the service and mail it in. With the lawsuit happy world of today most companies dont let people go for wanting to go to one funeral. There is usually a series of events that lead to it.

I did not for volunteer for overtime, and I upgraded along with most of my "new hire" contemporaries.

From what I've seen so far, I would be shocked if the one and only reason someone was let go was a funeral in the middle of their tour. As Flyguy said, there were probably a lot of other issues if that was the case. There was a guy in my type class that had to go home half way through due to a death in the family and that was apparently no problem. That even cost the company $$$ because he has to redo the course.

From what I've heard, upgrades usually occur with whole classes upgrading together. OT and other issues may relate to whether you upgrade at the front or back of your class. We were told that OT is a part of the merit formula, but only a tiny part.

I've also heard that for people who are passed over for promotion, there are usually very good reasons that go beyond "not being liked."
