This is my opinion, do not do this. NetJets is not a stepping stone job. As a new hire you will not get a type rating that will unlock an awesome large cabin gig. You will be in the phenom, latitude, Sovereign, XL, or X. The earliest you will be able to change airplanes is 39 months and the best case scenario is a CL350. As I said, this is not a stepping stone job.

Thanks for all the replies. I do live in a current “base”. Having such a long upgrade does make it seem like people enjoy the QOL life there. Obviously that’s on a case by case basis. I’m chasing QOL more than pay and equipment. However, trying not to lock myself out of some serious money/QOL compromises that would keep the family happy too.

The whole system is illogical, confusing, divisive, and in some cases unfair. Basically, a train wreck.

Most who have stuck around either have PIC money golden handcuffs and don't want to start over again, or were mostly trapped with little PIC time and little hiring at good jobs for the majority of our time here. QOL isn't likely something to count on outside of the Global. 7 day tours aren't particularly easy in other fleets and still aren't good for families even when your time at work isn't kicking your behind. NJA beats many a job, but the majors beat NJA like a gong for QOL.

Asking someone with fractional/corporate flying experience and coming from someone with no fractional/corporate flying experience; Would you rather fly a large cabin airframe as SIC for a stable, growing, solid company, gone for 2weeks at a time. Or something like NJA that appears to have its issues, but maybe more scheduling flexibility.

It would not be fun from a happiness standpoint, but for stability, I would choose NJA over most. That being said, if you can get on a large cabin airplane with a good company that treats you well, and the QOL is good both at work and when you are off, I would take that any day of the week over NJA hands down. Problem is, that is hard to find. If this is a temporary decision and you want to come to a fractional for a few years, don't even think about NJA, go to XO. You will upgrade 12 years faster than NJA and accrue jet PIC if tour end goal is going airline or something like that.
I would love to see the data, but attrition at NJA from people hired post furlough is really high, like probably 40%. Guys are going in, spending a year or two, and bailing to the next company that calls. Even several friends that had no intention of leaving have left, so if you want to come dip your feet at NJA to see if its for you, you can absolutely leave to greener pastures if you want. Lots of us have left for major pax airlines, cargo, corporate etc. Even a few have left for regionals and seem to be happy with the decision so going to NJA doesn't pigeon hole you into staying there by any means. And if you love it, stay and enjoy your career!

OhSnapAF has a good summary of the newhire life at NetJets. I will add this, NetJets has many different sub-cultures depending on what fleet you are in. The large cabin flying goes senior for a reason and the phenom is junior for a reason. That being said, you don’t have a decision to make about NetJets until you have a job offer. Apply and find out if it would work for you and your family.
