The long and short of it is this: Totally worth it. I have never been happier in my life except maybe my wedding day. 0.0% regret.
One will never know what true happiness until the day after they get married.

Or the day the divorce is finalized.

Man, that's a hell of a lot better than what I was doing in small jets back in the day!

Golden handcuffs are nearly platinum at this point. The better half loves the 7-7 even more than I do. 21 or 35 straight days off for a vacation can't be matched at an airline as a junior pilot without some seriously creative bidding.

I stay motivated two ways.

One, I don't give a crap about the success of the company anymore. I went from "owner" to "renter" to "caveman." I do exactly what the briefing says, avoid calling the brain trust at all costs, fly my tour and go home. I take care of my crew, myself, my airplane, my passengers, and then my job. In that order.

Two, I try to fly contract trips once in a while. Make a little extra cash, remember what it's like to NOT have a schedule, and maintain contacts in the corporate world just in case.

Just wanted to point out at 5 years at Frontier I was able to pull off over 45 days off with 2 weeks of vacation (bid for the last 15 days off of one month- July and used my 2 weeks to get all of August off and then I would have bid the first 12 to 15 days off the beginning of September butto be creative I bid for a COLA (company offered leave of absence) and haven't touched an airplane since July 22 and I'm scheduled to go back October 13th... Just saying.

I'm sure it's possible but you did get little creative with the bidding to achieve it. It's pretty routine on a 7-7.

Meanwhile, LOVE your avatar....

Is that COLA paid or reduced pay?

How exactly did you get that fuzzy math? Base is $161,077 and tops out at Year 14 well under $300,000 in 2029.

294 is the base for a small cabin captain on the 7&7 in 2029. There is also an 11k longevity bonus.

Jacks base pay is $247k, now say on thanksgiving the airline home was scheduled to get him back to his home base airport at 2200 on his 7th day, but wx delays cause his flight to block in at 0001 on the 8th day.. theres another $3,900. .. say that happens again on christmas eve.. so he gets another $3,900. now he is up to $255k.. and say 5 hours of OT each month of 8 months, thats 163 bucks an hour.. another $6500. , and fdp maybe 15 hours a tour say 10 tours that year.. thats $2,200. each tour.. totaling $22,000 more.. $283,000. for the year.. forgot about 5 holidays at $2,000 a piece, another $10,000., $293,000. for the year.
