Jumpseating on Foreign Carriers
Hi there,
I'm a 17-year-old aviation enthusiast, and I'm booked on a TACA flight from ORD to Guatemala City at the end of the month. I know FAA regulations do not allow regular passengers admission to the flightdeck on U.S. carriers (FAR 121.547), but what are the rules for an airline such as TACA? Would it be remotely possible for me to hitch a ride in the jumpseat? Any insight would be highly appreciated!

Many int'l (Non-US) carriers allowed civilians in the cockpit jumpseat during flight, prior to 9-11. I would be very suprised if that still occured. Thanks to Arab muslim terrorists, you can probably kiss that opportunity goodbye.

I agree that most airlines will not allow passengers into the flt. deck, and some airlines (mine) don't even allow OUR pilots to sit in the jumpseats..!
I do know that some airlines can do it.. I hitched a ride up front with a pax charter company simply by having the Captain fill out a form.. No one asked to see any of my certs.. I spoke to an Air India Capt. that said most Indian airlines give the Captain the full authority.. What a novel concept...
Good Luck, and it never hurts to ask.. The gate agents won't do it, but if you see the Capt. in the gate area, and he / she is not busy, just ask!
