Upgrade as contract pilot - WASINC
I'm getting more serious about applying to the Grand China Express contract job through WASINC. I currently have the requirements and am waiting on my furlough notice. Does anyone know if upgrading is a possibility or if I sign a contract as an FO, I will stay an FO?

What does it say in the contract? Why would they upgrade you, when they can just offer a contract for a captain at no cost to them?
Unless some upgrade scheme were specified, I'd get real comfortable in the right seat.

ok...i'm that guy...
i agree with you on your point, but i don't know if there's any upgrade scheme.
i haven't applied yet and don't have any way to get my hands on the contract. actually, if anyone knows of someone with a copy of the contract i'd love to thumb through it.

there is very few contracts that allow you to upgrade in the contract term. it also takes a long time to get the ball rolling witha china carrier. around 6 months so don't wait to start. also just ask them if you can upgrade.

question
Anyone ever asked why y,all have to go through a crew leasing co . to get work with a foreign carrier?
The nationals do not so why is it that ex-pat,s schould have to ?
Your paying to fly basically because you are not getting the full rate that you schould be getting and that money is going to the crew leasing co,s.
All I,m saying is try the direct approach with carriers that y,all are interested in and if they inform you to apply with a leasing co then go for it.
May you live in interesting times.

Some countries like China and India.. You are better off with a contract company. China to protect your rights since many pilots are taken advantage of, and India, because if they make the expats leave, then the contract company has to compensate you for the term of the contract.

I spoke to Brian from WASINC about this position. He told me (paraphrasing) that if you sign an FO contract then you remain an FO for the duration of the contract. After your contract is over you may be offered an upgrade with a new offer.

Paraphrasing what the guy said, but something like this; It's a contract job for an FO position, so thats all you should expect. The job I applied for DOES upgrade contract FO's, the contractor just won't put it in writing.
