You are the Air Japan expert I was just passing along advice as a former Reservist and USERA expert. I have heard you state before that classes have gone unfilled and that usually means short on applicants but the key point is Air Japan is not obligated under USERA to continue employment for a Reservist who is activated.

I don't claim expertise in anything nor did mupped master, he was just bringing up a case for the interest of the person that asked the question, I was also responding to your theory that this individual was returned to the line because they are short on applicants and that is not the case, classes have gone unfilled but because they are very selective and not because they have run out of resumes, also the rate of failure on the interview and medical is high. Recently a considerable amount of pilots interviewed from a defunct EU airline that for this case shall remain nameless, only 2 people were selected. Your position that AJX is not obligated to give the time off to reservists is absolutely 100% correct but CREW must since they are your legal employer and not Air Japan (you can corroborate this based on your expertise in USERA) that is why I reiterate my advise for TANK to seek the Information directly from CREW, since this pertains only to them and no other crew leasing company that provides pilots for this contract.

Any word how much hiring ANA is doing these days? Seems that there are a lot of Asian carriers hiring alot of pilots. Is it a buyers market for pilots?
If I were someday able to jump to a contract job, ANA would be my top choice. Still trying to get a right time to attempt it (maybe in another 1-2 years)
Basically, is ANA still doing pretty well. And any chance of expanded routes? More planes etc?

Main line ANA is doing very well, all numbers (both cargo and passengers) are up and they are still getting deliveries of 767's,777's and of course 787's. At Air Japan, the numbers that we are hearing from management is that they are 80 pilots bellow what they were expecting for the beginning of the 2012 fiscal year. Hiring is ongoing.

I want to make sure I can acquire a Japan first class medical because I have had LASIK eye surgery and it requires a waiver. I am currently Emp.oyed for a us major passenger airline. How can I obtain a Japan pilot first class medical in the states so I can avoid traveling to Japan to see a ASE?

The best thing you could do is contact one of the crew agencies and ask them. I am not sure if you are eligible if you have had any type of eye surgery in the past. It seems that I have heard that before but like I said, contact one of the agencies. They will be able to give you a definite answer.
