The good news is that now the guys applying don't need to worry about which company to a apply to

I'll have to learn how to use the oven

Hi Everyone

I just signed up to this website and would like to chat to someone on the AJV 767 captain contract. I'm looking at applying for this contract but have a bunch of questions if someone will indulge me.

I cant PM people yet but perhaps someone can contact me if possible?

I have found out the details of the interview/sim ride etc but would like to know from people what its like to work for AJV and how the commuting home works etc.

Regards

Pretty much everything you have ever wanted to know about AJV/AJX is contained in the 70 pages of this thread. If you can't find it here, head over to pprune and there is another 50 pages of info there. I can pretty much guarantee that all of your answers are found there, but you will have to read the thread.

Here is the link for the PPRUNE thread and as Lost in Asia said all the info that you can possibly want is there, if you can come up with an original question let us know. The two companies will merge next year so the flights will be a combination of freight and passenger flights and we do both day and night flights. Enjoy the long read and let us know if you need anything else

I've followed this thread for a while and also read the one on pprune, but can find the exact info on AJV/AJX fleet expansion plans for the next few years.
Sorry guys if you've seen this question before, but any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Things are very dynamic right now ADSky and there are a LOT of changes including the fact that there is not going to be any AJV any more because the two companies are merging next year and it is going to go back to being just AJX as it was at the beginning. ANA just opened the cargo base at Okinawa and they are counting on a lot of business coming in with the expansion at both Haneda and Narita and they are also betting that the economical downturn will subside by next year ( the trend seems to be proving them right) they are still planing to convert some of the 767's to freighters and they are still receiving new passenger 767 from Boeing. At this point I wouldn't even want to speculate how this is going to look in the next couple of years but it looks like it is going to be very exiting. On the other hand, the economical downturn could take a turn for the worst and Typhoon's intuition on his post on page 68 could very well prove to be right, got to love the unpredictability of this business

This is the updated info that I got today. The plans are for the ANA group to shrink from 7 airlines to 3 in the next 2 years. Air Nippon will merge into main ANA, AJV and AJX will be put together, and the remaining airlines will merge together. This is being done primarily to reduce overhead in support staff. Right now, no reductions in the pilot ranks are expected. Expansion plans are still the main part of their restructuring plans and that will require more pilots.

Integration of AJX and AJV will be completed by sometime around late summer of 2010, but they are still unsure of how long the pilot groups will remain separate. Initially, AJX will continue to handle PAX flights and AJV will continue to handle cargo. More information on a timeline of integration of the pilot groups will be coming later.

As far as fleet plans, I am not too sure. 5 of the 767s that we were supposed to be getting due to the delay with the 787 have been converted to 787 firm orders with the result of us getting 5 less than expected on the passenger side. And of lesser importance, we are no longer getting the winglets on the 767s. The 767s are supposed to go away one day (no one really knows when) and who knows what will happen to us then. We will either no longer be needed or move into something else.

Even with the little bit of uncertainty that has developed as of late, this is still a great place to be. Your level of job security here is just as good if not better than any airline back home. And I guarantee that you will be treated better here.

Here is a link to an ANA press release which explains things well. How refreshing it is to observe a company which has a viable strategic plan and intends to follow it!

Hi Folks.. I am sorry that I no longer post much on here, but it appears there is still a lot of information being given.

I want to make one point very clear. In this economy, we are all very happy to have good jobs, however myself and all of the guys I have spoken with feel that this "Merger" announcement represents a SAD DAY in the (short) history of AJV. As of now, we truely enjoy our co-workers, route structure and management.. While there are some good guys at AJX, I truely wish this would not happen, and hope the pilot groups remain seperate for as long as possible! (not to mention we are under contract DIFFERENT conditions)

I am proud of my company (AJV), proud of my co-workers, and will always consider myself an AJV pilot regardless of what my ID says...

On another note, the AJV management says we will continue to hire for the forseeable future!

Cheers,

BC
