For a short while, they were offering guys the option to get a work visa for Japan with residency. However, it has since been brought to a halt and you are supposed to commute.
While your family could come over and visit frequently with the 90 day visa free entry, I suspect that immigration would begin to ask questions if they stayed for 90 days, flew to Korea and back on the same day and stayed another 90 days for any length of time. You would also find things like school and banking and apartment rental virtually impossible without a residency visa.
Guys are not able to get apartments in Narita, but we have to go through one guy and the choices are limited. My suggestion would be to look at this job as a commuting job and don't expect a residency option any time soon if ever.

Hey folks. It's been a bit quiet on the forum. Anyone been through the process lately that can give us hopefuls the latest questions they are asking in the interview or just your experiences there. I spoke to one guy and he recons the interview is a handful of tech questions and the rest a general chat about you, your current job and why AJV?

It's not really a 'pool' as we know it. Once one successfully completes the interview/sim process and the physical you are given a composite score. Then each time there is a class the scores are ranked and folks chosen on that basis. In other words, passing the interview and the physical in no way guarantees a job offer but only that you are in contention.
Don't know how large the list is, though.

Quite a bit of folks in the list (lets not call it a pool) but the folks that are there are in contention since the company sent the dreaded "thank you for your interest but" e-mails to a few guys that where in the list but scored low overall points.
