ANA JP Express or Air Japan??
#1401
I see. Thank you. I'm not married to a Japanese national. My wife and I were stationed in Okinawa and we have talked about going back. We loved our time there. She has the ability to work as a contract nurse. If that were to happen, I think flying for ANA Cargo would be a great deal.
But there are a couple of things you need to consider.., there is NO jumpseat in Japan, they will not even allow you to occupy the jumpseat on the very same airplane you just brought in if you just wanted to return to OKA..., and the other is that we don't have a pilots base in OKA..., our home base is Narita.
What that means is that you will have to ZED your way back to OKA every time you go home because you won't be able to get a confirmed business class ticket or buy a ticket with one of the low cost carriers out here.
The good news is that tickets to OKA are pretty cheap.

Pay during training, U.S. taxes
First, thanks to all of you who have taken the time to contribute their experience regarding flying for Air Japan. It encouraged me to delve deeper into working with them. I have two questions though, that I have not found the answers on or have missed somehow in this 142 page thread. Maybe one of you can help me with this.
Q1: On the Crew job page here: https://chc.tbe.taleo.net/chc01/ats/...S&cws=2&rid=76
it states that for a first officer, the monthly pay for a "Trainee" is $7212, yet lower down the list in the notes section under *Supplemental pay" it says "$550 month will be paid during training only". (6 to 8 months?)
My question is, which one is it, $7212 or $550 during training?
Q2: This one has been asked a few times but not really answered - are you eligable for the $90K u.s. tax exclusion like you would be if you worked for the Mid East carriers? (If not, how does the tax situation work exactly if: 1. you are a U.S. citizen commuting from the U.S. and
2. you are a U.S. citizen living outside the US for over a year, in another country like Vietnam or Bangkok?
Thank you.

I can only answer your second question. If you're a US citizen you can take the foreign exclusion if you meet the physical presence test (you can only be in the states not more than 30 days) or if you are a bona fide resident in a foreign country. Bona fide meaning your tax home is in a foreign country. The ME guys use the bona fide and for AJX the physical presence would work.

You just got registered and already have a class? Can you elaborate on who you went through, how long it took you to go through the application/interview process and on your background? I applied last week and have yet to hear a peep.
