Well, as my father always says, when you turn around as you enter the flight deck and look at a registration with your name on it, then you can do as you want. Sorry you had a bad experience in Japan but the majority of us love it here, many have actually given up their number to stay, it isn't because we are masochists or anything.

When the train set it broke it doesn't work. Pls don't tell me about playing by the rules. Been there and done that. There are plenty of racist Japanese that do not want Yankees there. Don't believe me? Go spend some time in Okinawa

Talk to some of the guys at sky mark, see how much they liked it there. Talk to just about all of the 27 guys are J-Air. Trust me, sometimes no matter what you do you can't win. Had I had to do it over I would take China in a heartbeat over Japan

The Dominican 02-10-2015 11:50 PM

You did it for a year...., some guys here have done it for 15 years and I have been here for 8..., and I have spoken with many ex. Jair guys, many of them are still here in Japan working for other companies..., China??? You are kidding right?

Sure this gig has its negatives..., all the guys that work here have been very forthcoming with the negative aspects of it all..., but I wouldn't judge all the jobs in Japan with the experience of JAir..!

We don't deal with any of the idiosyncrasies that many expat jobs deal with, you hear stories from many of our guys that came from Qatar, Emirates, Cathay...., stuff like if you go around you are suspended from flight duty until you are interviewed by the chief pilot, or if you change the cost index you will be hauled in for a carpet dance..., we don't get any of that ridiculous nonsense here in this gig..., ANA is a captain oriented environment and once you are on the line they respect your decisions and the chief pilot here has gone to the mat defending the pilots here with silly stuff that has happened. Sorry but you are painting with a very wide brush.

airspeed1974 02-11-2015 12:08 AM

Dominican, please REREAD what I wrote. I have been an expat for TEN years and I am pretty sure I have worked in more countries than you.

I am not painting anything with any brush. I am talking about my experience. There are only a few of the J air guys that are still in Japan, and if it's whom I'm thinking of one of them is infamous for being hate by many people (ask his former ATA coworkers) the other is a kool aid drinker who would easily pass off as , ah well never mind maybe what I would like to say would get me sued.

The way things are done in Japan are 1. Way over complicated 2. Time consuming and ridiculous. I could spend hours writing about the ridiculous things.

I am glad that you have been able to stay that long. I for one def could not. All I needed was 6 months let alone a year to see just how stressful that place is. Some like it some don't. Def not for me

airspeed1974 02-11-2015 12:09 AM

Guess you haven't spoken to the "other guys" at Jair or the ones at sky mark have you?

airspeed1974 02-11-2015 12:10 AM

Just look at how complicated the flight time portion of the application is. That should give anyone a clue. One week course for getting your radio license? Hmmm.....

I've been on and off working as an expat for over half of my 33 years as a pilot and have worked In four countries abroad, I respect the fact that you have more experience than me working abroad...!

Like many of us that work here, we have wrote over and over again about the long process of training and the idiosyncrasy of the system...! I'm sorry you had a bad experience but again, you sure as hell are judging by your own experience and assuming that all the jobs in Japan offer the same experience, that is not the case at all.

The Dominican 02-11-2015 02:36 AM

And I have spoken with many guys at SKY as well as many of them are applying at AJX with the economical problems there.
A lot of them are looking into staying in Japan

airspeed1974 02-11-2015 05:02 AM

Please tell me WHERE I assumed anything????? Because I stated MY OWN personal exp this means I assume? Pls get off your high horse!

I don't know whom you have spoken with but if you know the history between Japan and China esp Nanjing you would know they are not the best of friends right?

Now, we have had Japanese pilots at our company yet I have never seen any Chinese at any co in Japan. So when you have Japanese nationals leaving Japan for China what does that say????

I have no idea what the hell you are rambling about..., China/Japan politics? Are you serious? What the hell do you care? Do you really want to start a discussion about Chinese/Japanese politics?

I don't give a damn..., this thread is about the QOL at AJX..., not about your preconceived notions about world politics.

I get the best commuting contract anywhere in the world with 14 days off of MY CHOOSING and business class commute anywhere in the world while accumulating miles that I put to good use on my 28 days per year vacation with my family every year, we fly very well maintained A/C's with plenty of fuel everywhere we go and I fly 35-45 hours per month working in a very professional environment where everyone speaks English and nobody questions me when I request extra fuel, nor when I do a go around, nor do they deduct money from my pay as punishment.

So go fly your 4 legs a day on your smoke filled cockpit with your F/O doing all your dealings with the company because nobody speaks English and make sure you call home before you go so you don't get your heart broken, because 6 weeks on and 2 weeks off are not commuting conditions..., it is time off for good behavior....!

So go make your own "The Communist Party Got Another Mouth Piece" thread somewhere else because I don't care what your view of Japan/China politics are...!

They are the Senkaku Islands, guaranteed by the US 7 fleet there you Commie....! LOL

Man this is funny. You think I'm a commie mouthpiece now? Ok, let's get back to some reading comprehension ok? Maybe I should buy you hooked on Phonix or get you involved in the RIF program

One thing I find amazing in this forum is how EASY PEOPLE LIKE YOU cannot keep a simple topic from expanding into something it's not.

Ok since you have gone down this path I'll do my best to explain it to you, fair enough?

1. I never assumed anything.
2. I never said EVERY single job in Japan sucks!
3. I never implied this whatsoever

The thing regarding China/Japan was me trying to point out that it's very unlikely you would expect to see Japanese pilots at an airline here in China due to the history between the two nations. But we have. So that MUST say something about working in Japan. It does. I know because I know these guys and was told DIRECTLY from a Japanese pilot who is former JSDF and former airline just how bad it sucked there.

And I I having spent over a year working for J-AIR have seen it myself

As for your wonderful nirvana schedule let me tell you that your incorrect.

1. Your schedule is not the best. Maybe it's the best for you. I personally feel one month on one month off is much better

2. I don't allow smoking in my cockpit so that's not an issue

3. Your pay is MUCH lower than mine. This is fact.

4. I don't fly 4 legs a day. I fly 2. Actually today I flew ONE, tomorrow I fly ONE. Then I have a week off. Really hard right?

5. The amount of BS you have to deal with in Japan is much higher than here in China. BTW j-air flew FOUR legs a day. I know because I did them!!!!!

6. How about the guy who commuted suicide during training a few years ago. Let me see if I can google it.

*** do the islands have to do with this?
