Well, things around here seem to be going forward just fine for the ANA group anyways...., been here since SARS, Avian Flu, the world economical collapse, the biggest frigging earthquake that I have ever and most likely will ever experience and the Fukushima disaster on CNN (here in Japan not so much:D) if there is one thing you could say about the ANA group is that they run things "steady as she goes"

Good to hear!

Just complete online application on Crew's website, what are the chance to get call nowadays. RJ FO background little bit more than 3000tt, and 1300turbine time, regional airlines and flight instructor background.

I know the good quality of ANA and good reputation from active pilots. Furthermore, I have family lives in Tokyo area. I am very serious for this opportunity. Any tips that help to get an interview opportunity is greatly appreciated!

Do they still have the biography section where you talk about yourself? If so, make sure to really play up your abilities and the ties to Japan.

They still do biography on the application, writing is not strong point of mine. I guess I have to work harder on that!

Just got offered a class date!

I just wanted to say thanks to all the previous post! They were a big help. Now I wanted to pass along my experience.

Experience: CRJ 200 - little over 2000 hrs in a/c - 4000tt
Flight instructed for 3 yrs got hired with 1700 hrs regional
4yr Degree

Started App in August 2014
Got called in late September for October Pre-screen
Recruiting company: CREW

Pre-screening in Las Vegas. They bought my airfair but I had to cover the hotel. I just did one night and half a day. I believe it was about 65 a night. Four interviewed at a time and I know there were 4 the day before also.In my group, 3 out of 4 passed. I did not buy sim time for this but some of the guys did. I think it was about 700 dollars for 2hrs in the 757 sim in LasVegas. I did study my butt off and learned the profile! Visual T/O ad L/D then a 45 intercept to an ILS. Doesnt sound like much but coming from the CRJ it was a bit.
Tip: Most difficult part I found was tracking final on the visual. The plane is much more sensitive to inputs then what I expected. Even putting what I considered small imputs, made larger corrections then I assumed it would which lead to rocking the wings or "dove tailing".

Tip: The 757 sim in LV is not in that great of shape. It only had one screen working. On the MFD the airplain is represented as a triangle. There is a small line leading out in front of the triangle, much like a trend vector on an airspeed tape except its for the a/c track. On base, when the tracking trend vector (not sure of correct name) hits final start turn or you will over shoot!!! Base legg is very quick!

I didn't feel so hot about my performance and they would not tell me if I did well or not. I had to wait about a week and then I got the email stating that I passed. This was mid October and they wanted me to interview in November. My schedule conflicted with thier interview dates and being able to get some 767 sim time. I was able move the interview to January. Crew has been very good to work with me on any issue!

Having passed, I made a full commitment to giving the best interview I could. I think it takes a 100% commitment to prepare for this interview. I don't believe one can go into this interview with any less commitment and expect to get hired. So study, study, study, and study some more. Chair fly until the legs fall off and your paper tiger rips!

I purchased sim time with paramount for around 2300 US dollars. This got me 4 hrs in a 767 sim just like that in Tokyo. I was very nervous about paying so much for a chance at this job, but I knew that if I was serious I had to take the risk! It was well worth it!! I strongly believe I would not have passed had I not gotten the sim time!!

Tip: Get as much sim time as you can if you don't have 76/75 experience.

Interview:
2 people at a time.

15-20 ATP Questions - no tricks just straight out of the book
I bought gliem book and studied some online free test also.

Then introduced to the interviewers. 2 hr and 3 pilots
One pilot gave an overview of the profiles and some tips on how to fly. This was nothing different then what is given in the packet. It was narrated in english.

Next was the 567 long pych exam questionaire. T or F

Then one at a time sit down interview. Each person introduced themselves. They were very nice and I felt welcomed. Most spoke English well. I didn't have any trouble understanding them. I studied all the question I found on this thread and CREW gave me gouge of previous question. All were spot on. Questions from Light gun signals to CRM, runway light and more. No suprises.

Finished the pych questions while other person interviewwed. Then on to the Sim. 3 pilots and 1hr lady were in the sim.
Tip: Even if your the FO hold your hand on the throttles until v1. My company has the CPT gaurding the throttle even if its my leg! They really wanted me to have my hand on the throttles.
There are no suprises in the sim! Fly exactly like the profile states. Call outs and all! Make sure to verify all radio calls like the handout states.

It was a long iterview but I left feeling that I had done the best that I could have. I recieved an email later that night stating that I had passed the interview and would be continuing to the medical. The other person did not pass. Their experience was on an A330 and had not been able to get any sim time.

The medical is pretty standard but for a couple of things. Chest xray, blood taken, ekg and then a brain scan. Besides that it was pretty standard eye, ears, and nose test.

Was told I would hear form them in 4 - 6 weeks, and man it felt like a long time! I recieved a call stating that I was offered a class date and now I am just waiting on the final announcement!

My wife and I are thrilled! I can't wait to start! The interview was a great experience and I really enjoyed Tokyo!

Great job! I hope you enjoy your new endeavor. I love Asia...Japan is great.

I recently flew with a capt...he said his first trip to Japan he realized that the U.S.is a third-world country...Japan is first-world!

Not to rain on anyone's parade and in not sure if they are much diff then JAL but the after spending over a year in Japan I would never ever work for a Japanese company. You couldn't pay me enough. The word flexibility does not apply there whatsoever.

The process in which they do things is beyond complicated and mind boggling

Good luck to all of you, been there done that and I sure hope you guys have a better experience then me or all the guys I flew with over there

It is not the owner of the train set that needs to be flexible.....! You want to play with it, you play by his rules or buy your own train.

Those that understand how the system works and adjust, have a pretty good run here..., Japan as a base is light years ahead of the sandpit or China.., it is clean, safe and you can get just about any western food, goods and services as any first class nation....., they want you to make all those "calls" and they seem to think that a failure to sign a logbook is a mortal sin....! Well, as my father always says, when you turn around as you enter the flight deck and look at a registration with your name on it, then you can do as you want.

Sorry you had a bad experience in Japan but the majority of us love it here, many have actually given up their number to stay, it isn't because we are masochists or anything.
