Question Central America

Anyone out there got any info on getting interviews / flying for Central American airlines such as Copa? Especially interested in prospects for 737NG Captains. Life style, living conditions, salary, crew bases, etc. How about the rest of Latin America? Any inputs appreciated. Thanks.

To start... do you have a right to work in any countries in Latin America?

In the Dominican Republic there is a company that is starting service in december. The name is Sol Dominicana. They are going to operate B767-200ER's and AVRO's. Avro's will operate in Caribbean and South America, the B767 will operate to EUROPE and DEEP south america. What kind of experience you have??

I have a few friends with COPA as I flew with TACA Regional on a training contract. They tell me they have the odd expat captain on the NG, any of whom would be TRI's. I don't think they have any regular line captains anymore at COPA, but I'll ask next time I speak with any of them.

I was OK as I was a TRI. Likely the same for TACA mainline. Mostly US registered aircraft though so you never know. With the number of people leaving COPA for La India, they may have to hire expats again.

Korupilot...wr ru from?

Copa airlines.....ok here is the scoop. The hiring minimuns are 250tt with a multi rating. As of most carriers nowadays, they r hurting really bad for pilots.
Recently, they just lost 70 pilots, both NG and EMB, who went to fly to INDIA for $10k with paid house, car and school for their kids...not a bad gig....but INDIA!!!!
First year pay on the 73's is 1500$ + per diem...on a good month total could get to 2500$.

I friend just told me he flew a couple of days befero with a former Southwest pilot.....i guess an FO that was made Captain at copa.

On the oither hand Taca just got an add on the newpaper offering pilot positions....same minimuns. They are loosing a lot of pilots which are leaving to Qatar.

Hope this helps

Their mins are 250tt with a multi?!?! That seems pretty good for a company like Copa, hard to believe they are having a hard time staffinf 190's and 37's with mins like that!

Is there any other 250 hour jobs in and around central america and the carribean(not a big airline but little commuter or bush operations)?

Again, I'll have to check (have not spoken with my mates from COAP yet but will get off my but), but I would say that your Spanish would have to be very good for COPA or TACA. And I'd whatch the hiring minumums; likely they do not count for Gringo's, sorry.
