They still have the B787's on order, still have B777-300's coming as well. PKG was just started before the games and all the long haul flying appears to be keeping pretty full.

The over sixty thing hit's hard down here as there is no retirement age, meaning more guy's are staying after 65 by going short haul or back to the right seat, which is frustrating. The B787 delay and the integration of the Freedom Air pilots, which personally I think to be a nightmare (last time I showed up to work there were two other B777 SO's, one is 68 the other well into his 50's, who are there on full A320 captain pay and not in a rush to go anywhere now).

All that aside, people have to retire sometime and there appears to be a bit of expansion after 2010, so for a young guy I think it's an excellent place to go for a long term career.
Thanks for the update. I am still making progress towards my Perm Residence and am taking the Air Law exam for the ATPL this month. I finally got 500 Jet PIC so I can do that. I am actually able to take the Air Law exam at the NZ consulate in Houston, TX... amazing.

I will keep plugging away in hopes that the next year or two I get my chance to interview there.

Thanks again.

AlohaFlyer....

Wouldn't mind asking you a few questions about the NZ ATPL Law exam if you're up for it. Basically just looking to find out what books/material you used to study for it. Also, could I get the phone number off you for the NZ Consulate there in Houston.

~Cheers~

Hey Ryan, Glad to hear you are making progress. How much further with the PR? I am complete and also finished the NZ Class 1 Medical. I am studying for the exams myself. Will be taking the exam(s) here in CO. Would love to hear about your Air Law exam as well.

Thanks again to Koru for the updates.

Cheers,

Hey Gang,

I just got back from the airline ski race in NZ. It was a great time and held at Mt. Hutt. Heaps of snow this year!

I would love to hear more info on how you all are preparing for the ATPL Law exam too. Tweet, are you really taking in Colorado?

I need to work on getting my medical converted over too.

Aloha, when you say 500PIC of jet time is that a requirement? I'm a CA on the Brasilia and I was hoping that my PIC time in that would be enough. -C

500 PIC on the Brasilia is just fine Ophir. It just has to be on the licence that you are using to convert. I was lucky in that I had a bunch of time in the right seat of the CV580 when I converted as I ended up converting my Canadian licence; most of my command time was on foreign licences (and of course foreign registered aircraft). Good thing as it meant I just had to write the law. My wife had to re-write (she did most when she was at Massey) five of them. Huge bummer.

The law is a piece of cake guy's. If you took a good look at the sample exam and studied related topics (to the questions) you'd pass pretty easy. It is one of the more sensical exams.

Thanks for that Koru. I was hoping that was the case.

I never made it up to Auckland on my trip. I ended up being hosted by a really nice young family in CHC. They lent me their car and I did a really nice long drive down near Wanaka and Queenstown. Thankfully, the whole time I was there the weather was amazing. The skiing was incredible too. We got about 30cm of new snow and then bright blue skies. I've been told my first ski trip to NZ was not what I should always expect though ; )

Yes Ophir, I manageed to convice ASL that I could use the very secure testing facilities at the AF Academy. A huge plus not having to travel to a NZ consulate.

Awe Tweet, and I thought any excuse to come down for a beer would do. . .

Apparently still interviewing mate. I'm not sure what the story is, but if you haven't spoken to Chris or David for a while then it might be worthwhile to spend the dime.

Ciao buddy.

So let me get this straight. If you have an FAA ATP and at least 500 hrs multi TPIC time in a Brasilia (FAA reg'd), then the only ASL written exam that is needed for the conversion is NZ ATPL Aviation Law. Is that right? My ATPL credits just expired and I'd rather not have resit those again, if you know what I mean.
