Hey Tweet, was it ASL that gave you the approval to sit the exams outside NZ or the NZ aviation body? Im in the same boat as you except for the AUS ATPL exams. CASA say you cannot do them anywhere except at ASL testing centres - none in the US. Do you have a contact from ASL that I may be able to talk to? Would be very handy to be able to do them here.

Ophir - good to see you here. I must have missed your message on SWOL -can you send it again and I'll keep an eye out for it (let me know your cell# too). I see you did the upgrade - hows that working out?

The PacBlue deal does sound a bit rough - not much time off for those hours. Anyone know the deal with JetStar?

Koru -80 people on yes letters sounds a lot - bring on those retirements! How do they deal with the pool - by interview date or do they do some cherry picking?

Tweet - 2 weeks for the FBI clearance is better than I thought - should get that off this week. Have had the chance to do some hunting (wild boar) and some fly fishing/deep sea fishing down there with my wife's relatives - hope to do a lot more!

Cheers

S

Hey Stillcallozhome,

It was NZ ASL. I am on the road at the moment so I don't have the specific name but here is the number to their (ASL) main office that I got off their website. NZ Ph: 04 913 9812 The operator should be able to put you in touch with the right person. It is possible to sit the NZ exams here in the US but it is typcally done at a consulte or emabassy. I had to get special approval for my situation.

Hope this helps,

Cheers for that Tweet. I hope the Oz consulate is as accomodating as yours. All ours are done through ASL so fingers crossed.

The pool in the past has been cherry picked for various reasons. Lot's of guy's sat on yes letters for a year while people like me sat for two day's before given a course date; I guess they knew how impatient I was. I have no idea as to how they will do this in the future.

Hi, guys. I have a question. I just completed the JetStar application. Are they looking for pilots outside Godzone? If they are any idea on upgrades, etc. I assume the openings they have on the site are all F/O positions.

A buddy of mine is there now, based out of CHC. He's come from an NG training captain position and is an FO at Jetstar; unsure of upgrade time but figures it won't be too long, but it also depends on your base of choice to some extent.

As far as being from this side of the planet, you'd just need the right to work in OZ. I'll double check with him as far as CHC base as perhaps it's just NZ right to work one requires.

Anyway, I'll be talking with him in a couple of day's and I'll try to get the full poop.

Thanks, Koru, the rumor I heard was Jet* was sponsoring work permits for OZ.

Jet is sponsoring through the 457 Visa program. It is not a pathway to residency though. I believe it expires in four years and it would not entitle you to work in NZ, I don't think. I've thought about that too.

Hey guys... I am making some progress... I finally lodged my formal Permanent Residence application with immigration NZ... hopefully the next few months things will work out so I can finally apply....

Anyone know if ANZ is going to be running any new classes in 2009?
