the only things you need to get from the university for the reduced minimums are the 141 instrument, 141 Commercial, the 60 credit hours of Aviation classes and the Degree. CFI, Multi, private, ATP- anything else you do not need to get at the university.

Also it should not take you a year to get a CFI.

Cant agree more. Flight instructing for almost everyone is an awful experience. You will learn but you will reach a point where you physically cannot do 1 more dual hour without killing yourself. Large flight schools dont give you a good QOL but its the only route to go today for hours. Id do your Instrument and Commercial initial then bounce for the cheaper school.
