Default Cell phone and headsets

I really have no idea what forum to put this one in, so feel free to move it if ya want.

I have a headset that allows me to attach my cell phone. Has anyone tried this feature out? I get how you could hear the call in your headset, but do you still have to talk into the phone, or does the mic work for talking? It seems like you would have to talk into the phone after looking at the cord that connects the two, as there just aren't enough contacts for the two functions. That almost seems like it wouldn't work all that well, because if it was quiet enough for the guy on the other end to hear what you are saying, why do you have to put his voice into your head set? I guess I could go out and try it, but I never really got the chance. Glad to hear your thoughts.

Ive tried it on my headset and for me you hear the audio through your headset and speak through the mic on the set, its actually pretty neat, not to mention incredibly clear and crisp. The phone just sits on your lap, your headset does the rest. Interesting point about it transmitting between pilot to copilot while youre talking on the cell tho, I never thought of it until now..

I can already see it. Someone crashes because they were talking on their cell phone while FLYING. And you thought it was only a problem in cars!

Ya, that seems like a great invention. Why do you need to be on your cell phone while flying anyway? Have fun with that little gadget, it won't be something that I'll take with me in the plane, let alone waste my money on.

Um, the idea is that you can get ahold of FSS on the ground. Before you take off. It could also be nice to call Canadian Customs from the plane, as they hardly ever come to the airplane. In an emergency, wouldn't it be nice to be able to call ATC. I have an instructor who has done that before.

Crazy waste of money, ONLY good for keeping in touch with ho's. Not to mention that it comes standard with many headsets.

Shouldn't you have called flight service from the FBO? Why would you call flight service from the ground after you aircraft is already running. Usually I call flight service before I get into the plane, its called preflight planning. It might come in handy in an emergency, but I have looked at my cell phone in flight just to see what kind of signal I had, and I hardly ever got a signal, espicially at higher altitudes, and when I was flying out in the middle of no where. I feel that this product is just another way to get people to spend more money out of their pocket. If I wanted something to communicate with ATC during an electrical emergency or lost comms, I would by a hand held VHF radio.

Default Clearance Void Time.

I got one of those gadgets for christmas. Mine is the one from Sporty's and you can hook up music. I have used it a few times calling FSS to get an IFR clearance on the ground. It works great, because the void times are usually 5 minutes, so you need to be ready to takeoff.
