CFI checkride in ft worth w/FAA
Hey guys and gals just got signed off to go do my cfi initial with the FAA. I've been studying and studying but as the date gets closer I'm getting more and more nervous. I guess this is checkrideitis setting in. I'm taking it up at the Forth Worth fsdo at Alliance field on the 17th of may with an examiner named Dale Johnson. Anyone else have any experiences or gauges with the fort worth fsdo?
I am pretty confident with teaching maneuvers but it's regurgitating foi stuff that frustrates me. I understand it when I read it but have trouble remembering the long lists especially when some just flow together. Any pointers? I've been trying flashcards with a buddy. Well wish me luck guys I'll tell u guys how it goes.

I made acronyms to remember them (REEPIR, etc.) and just went over them again and again and again and again and again until I could recite them from memory. Then my examiner (Dallas FSDO) let me follow along with my PTS throughout the exam, and I had all the acronyms written in the margins Go figure.
Impress them in the first 15 minutes and the rest will be cake. The lunch break on my practical was longer than the actual flight!

1. Make up acronym memory aids
2. Definitely know FOIs cold...it is not rocket science, and they always start with that, so it's what is going to make your first impression and set the tone.
A good first impression might help gloss over a rough spot later on in the checkride.

Like any check ride the examiner can usually tell if you're going to pass in the first 15-30 min. After that it's more of the ability to hold an intelligent conversation about the subject matter at hand than anything.
They know you're nervous brother. Keep your head up, know the concepts, and be able to adjust your teaching methods to adapt to different students attitudes. They (FAA guys/gals) sometimes like to play the different personalities during the initial CFI ride.
Good luck!

PASSED with flying colors. I think I might have over studied the FOI stuff because we barely hit them and i was spitting answers left and right. I was a little week on endorsements and but nothing that coulda failed he said. The oral was done by lunch. Flight was 1.8 and he said my instruction was "refreshing" and that i did things like i had been instructing for years. He said it was was one of the best checkrides he had done in a long time and that he believes i will create some great products. SO thank you APC for all the advice you have given me. I pretty much got a CFI job with my school lined up and i will be moving on to get my Multi add on done in the school's 310. Ive been waiting a long time to climb into that plane!

Good job!!! Did mine there last year think I had a 5 hour oral, he was brutal. Hit the FOI hard. We had to discontinue, because the winds were crazy but we knew that days in advance so that probably why it was so long. Met up with a different guy couple days later at FTW 1.3 and I was a CFI. Congrats!!!
