Default Community college for aviation?

Ok. So, this is my second year in Leeward Community College in Hawaii now.
There is any other community college in town that i can take course up to avit 344. Should i just get enrolled into it?
I mean, IT IS JUST AN ASSO. DEGREE.
Would airlines WANT to hire an aa degree guy?
Or should i pay 32,000 to go to university of North Dakota..

And, by the way, i am aware that a lot of pilots here suggest us NOT to major in aviation for a fall-back, but i figure i can just work on a undergraduate degree on aviation and political science at the same time right?

For the Aviation Degree vs Anything-else debate, there are many threads on that.

Either way, an AA degree would make you more valuable than someone else with just a high school degree. It won't beat out someone with thousands of hours, but at an entry level place (regionals) it will be something to have on the Resume and it "checks the box." Some places want a BA, but others say an AA is okay (or even "Some" college credit).

You'll have to be more specific about "Avit 344." For all I know, Avit 344 could be private pilot remedial or MEI. Numbering is not universal across schools.

"AVIT 344 - CFI Certification (5)"

That's what it said in their website.
Hmm.. i guess i mess up while typing the first thread.
Actually i was wondering should i get a AA degree in aviation, THAN transfer to an university and get the BA.
Yes, i knew a lot of you guys mention in other thread that to "get a degree in other major but not aviation for fall back." But ignore the fall back part, wouldn't it be easier to entre the field if i have a BA in aviation? I mean, i got the license, the hours, pretty much can skip the training part..

Better off getting a degree outside of aviation so you have a fall back. The airlines could care less what your degree is in, be it Aeronautical Engineering or Pouring Coffee. As long you as you have the degree they check the box. Someone with a Associates will get a higher mark then someone with just a high school diploma, someone with a Bachelors will get higher marks then an Associates and so on for Masters and Doctorates. What is boils done to is they don't care what your concentration is, just that you have one. Your main concern needs to be building hours and becoming a CFI is a good way to do that.

Awesome.

Dump question: if i am gonna have to go to a flight school (after university) and become a CFI, than why don't i do it in a community college (right now)? It's cheaper than going to flight school.

Also, after i graduated from the aviation school in that community college i will get an AA degrre AND the credit i got in aviation school can transfer to an university for whatever major: i can get a BA degree in pouring coffee AFTER finished the aviation school. Doesnt that save money (and faster)? i don't have to go to a flight school AFTER getting the BA: i already get the commercial licence in community college.

Does that make sense?
I know it might be a bit confusing, but hell, i am confused.

Be very careful if you are planning on transferring credits from an AA degree to another college or university. Most universities will not accept your aviation credits. If they do, they will only accept a few as 'Vocational credits'. If you are planning on transferring to UND, check with them first to make sure they will accept all of your AA credits first. I had 145 credits from a community college (most were in Aviation classes) and tried to transfer to a 4 year state university. They would only accept 45 of my credits (12 aviation credits as Vocational). I talked to many schools who said the same thing. The only school that would accept them all was ERAU.

Hi Arnold,
In my opinion, the advise you've been given so far is very solid & "conventional wisdom". Get a Degree. In Anything!. Also, if you transfer, make sure you know what will & what won't transfer BEFORE you get onto campus. Get the Registrar's office intimately involved in the X-fer process. Like you, I had a $ issue. I found a State University in Arkansas that offers a degree in Aviation. Henderson State U. in Arkadelphia, just SW of LIT about 40 minutes. If you wanted to finish up there, out of state tuition would be an issue, but as Av schools go, it is (was) dirt cheap. PM me if you think I can help you out.
