Default Microsoft Flight Simulator

HELP!

Can you tell me how and where to get an MD 80 add-on, preferably an MD 83, that will work on Microsoft X, 98, or 2004? I have a check ride coming up very soon in an aircraft I havent flown in years and it sure would be nice to be able to work the fms for a while before jumping into the actual sim.

After I download whatever version, how do I install it and in which version?

Also, I know I used to be able to program on version of flight sim for a particular airport and approach procedure. However, now when I try it seems I am only offered different lessons, tours, or challanges. Tried the fly now option, which at least let me pick aircraft and weather, but still didn't see how to select airports or approaches. Please refresh my memory.

Thanking you in advance/

Believe it or not most people can prepare for a checkride without the use of Microsoft. Maybe you should ask your training department for some additional training?

Try X-Plane. It's more realistic and there's actually FAA approved training devices that use it.

Wow..that's helpful.

You won't find a better simulator than this one.

FlyTheMaddog.com

Of course, it costs money.

The flight models are much better in X-Plane owing to "they actually do physics calculations"...all the airplanes in MSFS are basically big 172s from a computational standpoint. The systems modeling (you specifically mentioned FMS) might be better in MSFS though - depending on which craft you buy.

Then again, it's been a long time since I looked at avionics in X-Plane.

The "one size fits all" probably isn't accurate. Perhaps there isn't a training department? (i.e., contract job).

I used Microsoft (successfully) to learn the B737-300 before doing the assessment sim ride in one. I had never flown one previously.

The 737-8 is the one airliner that I feel comfortable with and choose 85% of the time I'm on FSX. Today I'm flying ATL-CVG-MSP-HOU-ATL.

To the OP, I tried to download other a/c to FSX and may have p/u sort sort of bug in my FSX app. There is this thin white layer that all my a/c pass thru @ or about 2000' AGL. Sometimes I'll pass thru it at 5000' AGL. In addition, there seems to some sort of fog bank that obscure the landscape while the a/c is enroute. Just be careful.

try flightsim.com. They have a large library of free downloads as well as how-to articles...
