LogBook
Hello Aviators,
Thank you for your insight and responses.
I have about 60 hours with no PPL. Now I'm about to resume flight training (it's been about 3 years) but I can't locate my logbook. Now, I figure I can cut down on some of the cost for my PPL if I have my logbook.
-can anyone confirm that?
-more importantly, does anyone know how I can get my records (if it is recorded somewhere)
I was reading some of the other post and logbook came up and there was a mention of OKC?
-What is OKC?
-Is that sort of record keeping for established pilots or could I retrieve my hours through them?
Thank you and safe landing to everyone.

OKC is Oklahoma City where the main FAA offices are. They keep no record of your flight time or training records. Your only recourse is in how you did your training. If you flew at a part 141 school then they will probably still have your records on file. If you don't know what a part 141 school is then you probably didn't fly at one. In that case, your two options are to start over or find that logbook.
I suppose you could contact your old instructors and piece the logbook back together from their logs. If a student of mine contacted me in that situation I would not hesitate to sign them off most ricky-tick.

Is it possible to go to the location where you did you training and see if they can print out a history of your flights? You could then copy them over to a new log book and try to find you old CFI and convince him to sign it.
Otherwise, yeah you are sorta SOL. If you can regain the proficiency you should be able to do it in the absolute bare minimums but that will still be a couple grand (5-7).

OKC will only have records of you flight time on 8710 forms (submitted each time you take a checkride) and on medical application forms.
You probably have never submitted an 8710. If you got your medical AFTER you had started training their might be a record of your total flight time, but without CFI signatures that will count only as total time, not as required instruction for the PPL.
If you are starting over with an eye towards professional flying buy a large professional logbook. Trust Me.

Thank you all for you thoughts and expertise. I really do appreciate all of you input and I love this website.
I have in contact with the flight school, which is not in operations any longer, and my old college. They are doing all they can to help me locate my records. However, all of it would be in vain if I can't locate my old instructor to sign my new "Large" logboook (thanks for the tip Ricky; makes perfect sense).
If anyone knows him or has any information; please come fourth.
-His name is JOE SERPA, and I believe he is now flying for CapeAIR.
-He was teaching at WAGNER AIRWAYS in Taunton, MA.
-Real nice fella!
Just throwing it all out there; you never know who is on the site.
Thank you all. It's nice to know that my ground school instructor was right, the profession that I'm persuing is a family and we look out for one another.
....Now, let us all get together and strike for higher wages!!! ....
Safe landing to everyone.
