Default American Flyers Dallas

Flight Training Addison, Texas American Flyers

Any word on these guys? Got an internship in Dallas and looking at doing my CFI some place in the area at the same time over the summer. Anybody have some first-hand stories or experiences they'd like to share? Is there a better place to go to get my CFI?

Thanks!

What internship did you get in Dallas? I came down to Dallas to do an internship with American Airlines and now I'm down here flight instructing. I'm out of Grand Prairie (KGPM). I think either of those schools would be pretty decent for working on your CFI. Flying in and out of ADS is a bit of a chore at times. A lot of time is eaten up just waiting to take off. If you have any specific questions shoot me a PM. I don't always get around to checking all of this forum. Good luck!

Paid American Airlines Flight Internship! I'll look into KGPM...it's about the same distance from the apartments I'm looking at as KADS. Thanks!

Congrats! You'll have a blast. I wish I could do the internship again! I live in one of the apartments they recommend in the information packet you get. It's right by the flight academy. We've had three former interns work for us at our school. My boss works at the flight academy so he often recruits interns.

American flyers addisson in an incredible school. I have nothing but good to say about it. Yes every business has their querks and no business is perfect, but i can honest say that AF ADS is always looking out to the students best interest and providing proper training. I have been through their program and currently finishing up their 30 day CFI program. If i could do it all over again i wouldn't even consider looking anywhere else. Mitch is a great guy, not sure what this flamer is talking about. How much does the CEO of American Airlines or any other airliner know about aircraft? Mitch is a manager, not a mechanic. Enough said.

Also from what i hear, schools like ATP don't allow flying into IMC. I have over 20 hours actual and that kind of experience is invaluable. Whats Class A? All IFR. If you ever wanna go anywhere in the aviation industry, you'll be filing IFR and getting in the soup.

I've heard bad things about American Flyers and have had some bad experiences at the hands of their instructors. Often times I'll use them as an example for my students as what NOT to do. One of my closest aviation mentors is a DPE in Dallas and he consistently complains about the lack of airmanship their students display. That said, I send all my students there for their written exams and when it comes time to renew my CFI again I'll use their program.

They are like any of the other academies with their usual evils and I'm sure some good comes from them too. Each time I go in there though I get the heebie-jeebies.

ATP is alright, especially at GKY, when you use their targeted programs. I don't know if I'd go to them for the initial CFI though since it's the MEI. I'd much rather save the cash and find a freelance or run to skymates.

Aside from the American Flyers vs. ATP debate, I think a big factor in your decision should be the taxi and wait times at Addison or Arlington. From what I've seen flying in and out of them, students at Addison probably spend 30% of their aircraft rental time to sit on the runup pad.
