Jet University Fraud
Apologies if previously posted.
Jet University
$70k up front to make you another zero-to-hero who doesn't know what the rudder is for. My dad always said "If you're stupid you'd better be tough"

Sad thing so many companies out there are more than happy to take kids who don't know any better (we all started out knowing nothing about this business at some point) and then load them up with debt. At best you get out realizing what you did but can continue with your job. At worst, well you end up like the Jet U folks.
Sad, really.
This is why I think we need to evangelize this career more and use our resources at ALPA, AOPA, etc to get the word out on how to do this job right. Not only would it help the future generation of pilots but it'd be in our own self-interest too.

For those noobs who are considering this sort of zero-to-hero training program, be advised that this is not an uncommon occurrence. This sort of school commonly goes BK any time the economy hiccups (or one of the owners embezzles all their money). It happens every few years down in central florida.
Of course the bank holding your loan will still require that you pay it off. Bankruptcy probably won't get you out of a student loan, I think federal law prevents that (otherwise every college grad, being broke and unemployed, would file BK to dump his loans before he gets a job).
The BIGGEST red flag from a flight school is when they want ALL of your money up front. This is a MAJOR danger sign, indicating that you should run away as fast as possible.
Most flights schools live hand-to-mouth...NEVER keep more than one weeks worth of training on deposit with ANY flight school ($1000 maybe $1500 max).
Flight Safety might be the only exception, since they have a very large and very lucrative business training jet pilots and are not likely to go broke.
