I ‘m not sure what a W-2 makes with benefits, but I know it’s nothing to sneeze at. Yes you’re looking at Afghanistan and Iraq. I ‘m not you or totally understand your situation. But I would think about plan “B”, something other then aviation if you get out.
There are many pilots with 20 plus years, flying right seat for peanuts or on the streets right now.

Figure some where around 5800-6100 per month depending on BAH rates after taxes.

Army Guard
Join the Army NG. Fly helos part time. B.S. in anything but aviation. Transition to fixed wing on your own time. Don't go to an aviation school for college or a pilot mill for quickie ratings. Finish your B.S. fast, take your time to develop real world experience flying all 4 seasons.
