Purdue getting a new fleet...

Heh, now we'll have even more of a reason to joke about the "PUers" when they do a touch and go at our school's airport Although I really don't think it looks to bad for a paint, erm, nylon graphic job. Not overly complex, fits the school colors (i think), and has the name, and like it or not, it IS a slick looking AC.

The Fleet is at the auction house right now. The Arrows and the Seminoles are not included in the deal. I was wondering what they were going to do about the commercial since it has to be done in a retract. I like the Cirrus i just don't believe that it is a good trainer. One as someone who works line service the Cirrus is a friggin cow on the ground. trying to push that into the t hangers is gonna SUCK. Also they are going to have to come up with some new XC routes since the Cirrus will do the LAF-LOU-EVV-LAF flight that i did in the warrior in 4.2 hours in 2 hours. Also I think its great they are going to get a phenom and get everyone jet time but its going to eliminate alot of the use of the aircraft. Not many groups on campus are only going to want to take 4 people places. out of my 15 hours this semester I only had 2 trips with less than five people onboard. Alaska airlines was going to give Purdue their MD sim for the cost of tranportation if they wanted it. Also Horizon is probably going to be getting rid of their Full Motion crj-7.

I don't think there will be any problem stuffing them in the t-hangars (assuming they fit!), but then again when I was part-timing I was used to putting a F33A into a T-hangar in LEX by myself so the "two people to a Warrior" thing was kind of a joke.

That is true but even though it is lighter than a SR22 it is still a giant cow when it is fueled. I worked on Nantucket last summer and the sirrus's were always considered the pretty boy airplane. We always had our singles park in a grass area that was maintained for that exact purpose because the space that a SR22 takes up on our main ramp is much more profitable if it is being filled by a G. The owners of htese planes screamed bloody murder about taxiing on the grass.and the only issue we had was some guy go off the edge of the pavement onto the grass at about 30 and nick his prop. Also i can jsut imagine trying to push the damn planes into the hangars with a foot on either side for clearance and some scrawny freshman helping out. Don't get me wrong I think the cirrus ios a great airplane i am jsut not sure about it as a basic trainer. It seems like a little much for some one to be theoretically soloing at 13 hours.

Western Michigan has been using them for several years now and I haven't heard any problems with their operations. The hanger rash is probably going to go up, but maybe for the price they should hire someone to do it instead of the students to prevent such happenings.

Our 2 first Cirri were here the other day...flew them away to fix sensor problems. They should be returning today...gonna be an interesting plane to instruct in next semester for sure. The CR7 sim is over in the Holleman building, too.
