Default Katana DA20-A1 or Cessna 150?

Which should I train in?

Katana DA20-A1 or Cessna 150? Both are $104 CAD/hr ($95 USD/hr)

Is this a good price? Which a/c should I choose?

Thanks

Cessna is tried and true, and a good trainer, I have no experience with the Katana, But I have heard good things about it. One thing to think about is your future goals, if you want to transition to bigger Cessnas than the choice there is obvious, if you only want to stay with what you trained in, then it doesn't matter....

My vote is with LA

Where i trained the 152 was 55 dollars an hour wet..but that is apples to oranges because price varies on location drastically. My father is learning in NH in a J-3 and i think he pays like 90 per hour for a 4gph airplane.

One thing i was taught is that it does not really matter what you train in, basic piloting skills are basic piloting skills, meaning......a pilot who learns to fly in a J-3 cub will not necessarily be any worse off than a pilot that gets his private in a Beech Bonanza or Arrow or insert high perf complex of choice.

Pick the cheapest plane that is of interest to you and after your private you can learn on bigger badder more complex ac.

I learned that after really learning to fly and land and operate the 152 safely that when i transitioned to other aircraft it was just a matter of learning the systems and Vspeeds etc...the flying comes quickly if you already possess the skills....

in closing....save those dollars because there is TONS of money to spend further down the road, just ask ATP and ARI and GU*&$tream Acad...etc etc..the list goes on

I would choose the Cessna over the Katana, but I have a major aversion to composite.

I've flown about 50 hrs in a DA-20(with the cont.) It gets a good 135kt cruise and it has a very mild stall. It's also got a stick. The 152 is very tried and true.110 kt. I believe almost everyone has flown one. If they cost the same @ the same school. then I suggest to fly both a bit. There's nothing wrong with knowing how to fly both. You can then decide on the one you feel most comfortable flying.

go with the DA20, newer plane, newer avionics, better performance. its faster, will get you there quicker (xc, practice area, etc), better climb. if they are the same price, there is no qs go with the DA20. i got my private in a 152, what a POS. I weighed 180 and my instructor was pushing 180 also, on a hot day we would barely get 300fpm.

That seems a little steep for a 150. Are they the same age? I would fly the one with the better avionics, or maybe wich ever one was faster. I wouldn't worry about flying the one that is the most like something that you want to fly later, it won't be that hard to get used to something different. My guess would be that the Katana is a little nicer, if it is, I would go with that.

You wouldnt think that was expensive if you lived in Canada. How about paying $225 for 1.3 hrs. and a flimsy groundbrief?
