Default Schools for cfi rating and instructing.....

Hi everyone,

I just discovered these forums 2/3 days ago and have found a lot of good information here. I am currently holding a valid FAA CPL/IR. I am interested in doing my flight instructor rating and instructing at some place to bu ild some time, for which I want to return to the US (currently in India).

Does anyone know any such schools, especially in the houston area? I have lived there before, so it would be easier if I returned there as well. One friend of mine told me about mvp aero academy, who I emailed...got a nice reply from them, but I spoke to 2 students there, they said that from a total of 80 students last year and fleet of 26 airplanes, they only have 12 students left, and 5 or 6 airplanes. The planes were repossessed by some bank. Out of 12 students, 4 are working on the cfi, they already have 5 other instructors. Is it really worth to go there with 9 instructors and 8 student s?

I checked up on American flyers, seems quite nice, positive opinions, but no idea if they will keep an indian as an intern for flight instruction? Same case with United Flight at KDWH.

I have also been told about few other places, particularly in KADS, monarch flight etc. etc.
Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks.

Try to find a schol which does a lot of MEI work. Do your training there, get hired as an ASEL CFI, then move up into MEI. You will need the twin time, and it can hard hard to get. You don't want to end up a 2000 hours ASEL CFI and then have to go buy 100 hours of twin time.

Also I think the congressional bills which are in the works may require or encourage the airlines to place more emphasis on ME time...you might need several hundred hours, especially when hiring rresumes and they have a large backlog of qualified pilots.

Note that your CFI training is a bargaining chip...don't just pick the cheapest school, but make sure that:

1. You would like to work there.
2. There is a very good chance that they will hire you.
3. You can eventually move up to MEI.

Check into Aviator, most of the flying is ME unless your doing your single CFI Add-on. Plus they tend to hire from the student ranks. They have several International CFIs here on Visa's.

I did my CFI's at American Flyers in Dallas. I was very pleased with the course. I now work for the school in Houston. Let me know if you have any questions. I can try and answer them best I can.
