Couple weeks ago I talked to the guy from DCA. And i got a brochure. And the costs are:
Private and Instrument: 25672.50
Upset Recovery Course: 3195.00
Commercial Multi-Engine: 18088.25
High Altitude Training: 500.00
Commercial Single Engine Add-on: 4803.00
CFI Rating: 8339.00
Total 60597.75
Plus CFII RATING: 6603.25
Plus: MEI ( MULTI ENGINE INSTRUCTOR): 4986.50
Plus FUEL SURCHARGES
THE REAL COST OF TRAINING = 72187.5 (WITHOUT FUEL SURCHARGES)
PLUS FOR HOUSING ANOTHER 8000= 80187.5 DOLLARS
AND THEY SAY TAKE THE LOAN OUT FOR 20% MORE.
THEN THE REAL TOTAL WITH FOOD AND OTHER NECCESARIES IS AROUND 100,000 DOLLARS.
WHO WANTS TO GO THERE?

Its expensive ... YES, but my buddy is getting a check from DCA for $3200. A refund for "Upset Recovery Training" that they don't really offer because they don't have a plane. The one they had was a cheaper model that didn't fit most of the student body yet we ALL were told we'd have the opportunity to take the course ... and we're all paying interest on that $3200 we had to borrow for something we'll never get.
Get your $3200 back from DCA and go across the airport and get the course for $2800 and pocket the $500 left over for yourself. DCA seems to think you'll overlook the fact they don't offer upset recovery anymore and somehow they'll get your money in the end. I sadly already paid out of my own pocket for the course elsewhere and are going to have to fight to get the money back.
(I will say ... the course was awesome ... some of the most exciting flying I've done yet!)

Just my opinion, but you would have to be crazy to spend that kind of money for trainig!!! None of my employers ever cared how I got my ratings. As long as I had answers for their questions they were happy.

That's amazing.
Consider a 15 year prepayment period at a nominal 9.25% rate.
Monthly payment is about $1025 per month (for 15 years) with a total cost of the academy somewhere north of $185,000.
