Purdue vs. Riddle

I disagree with your #4 comment. In my class of 74 cadets, only 2 got pilot slots. This was in 1998 however. So take it for what its worth. Timing is everything.
Overall though, I agree with everything you said. Just go in state to a decent college and save some money. I live in Florida now and if I did back when I was in school, I would have gone to Riddle. But since I lived in Indiana during my college years I went cheaper and stayed in state. Do what's best for you, but love what you do.

But like you said, it's all about timing...and quality leadership.
All the pilots and Air Force officers I've met from Riddle are sharp. I have nothing bad to say about Riddle except for cost.

K, I'm not criticizing, just asking for an opinion. What happnes when the airlines stop hiring and your only option for a job is flying a Baron at night, IFR with nothing even close to a GPS let alone a G1000? What good is all that glass cockpit time gonna do, when steam gauges are the only viable option?
As far as the curriculam at Purdue, the sky is the limit. Any topic, elective, activity, etc.. is available. Getting a second major/minor isn't hard to do. Frat life, apartment life, dorm life, it's what you make of it, but that's the nice thing is that there is the option. I'd highly recommend taking a tour of both campuses if you can, and just get a feeling of what it's like at each.
For whomever is thinking about Purdue as an Option, and you want to talk to me personally, PM me with your phone number and I'd gladly answer any questions.

I have not been to either. However I have been in the industry for 31 years and have done my share of hiring and training.
Lots of good people come out of Riddle. That said, neither of my kids are going there under any conditions. If the choice is one or the other there is no choice. And as others have said, major in something other than aviation.
All that money can get you a first rate education at a first rate university, still cover flight training AND have money left over. Plus give you a set of friends who can talk about something other than airplanes.
