Not sure where you got that from. Just like Blastoff said,"you'll get the pressure about grades slipping from your fraternity brothers before you hear from administration. Most fraternities I know require at least a 2.5 CGPA and higher.

I'm a proud member of ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY, INCORPORATED and RIDDLE GRAD.

Purdue for the full college experience. I finished my degree though Riddle's extended campus about 10 years ago so I can't comment on the college life there. But I do know that there's a lot more to life than flying. Many at the aviation only schools don't get it till later on...

Default Boiler Up!

My time at Purdue was the best 4 years of my life! I looked into ERAU and UND as well. I was accepted at all three. There were 10 reasons I chose Purdue.
1. I lived in Indiana
2. The education at Purdue is more well-rounded.
- What I mean by that is the degree curriculum has classes on ATC, airport management, airline management, etc. It's not just flying an airplane. Not to mention Purdue is a large university, so you can take just about any other classes you want. Everything from Business to engineering to religion.
3. 2 years of 727 systems, advanced navigation and training in full motion 727 sims.
4. The AFROTC program at Purdue is one of the top in the nation. 80% of those who apply for a pilot slot in the air force get it. The national average is much lower.
5. Every flight student gets KingAir B200 time. Usually about 10hrs.
6. The staff there is amazing, experienced (all have been in the industry), and want to see you succeed.
7. Job placement is high. They have some great connections there. I'm sure Riddle is the same way though.
8. I wanted to go somewhere with a large university atmosphere, not a small, specialized private private college.
9. ERAU was gonna cost $100,000. I came out of Purdue with NO student debt.
10. Big Ten sports!

Hope this helps. If you want the contact info of some profs there, let me know.

K, I'm not criticizing, just asking for an opinion. What happnes when the airlines stop hiring and your only option for a job is flying a Baron at night, IFR with nothing even close to a GPS let alone a G1000? What good is all that glass cockpit time gonna do, when steam gauges are the only viable option?

Ill take the job. Started steam gauge and then they went to glass.

Riddle is pretty much set up to train somebody like the airlines, hence the glass and the courses.

The majority of flight training is spent on instruments. Probably a good two years or so. Radial to radial flying isnt that bad and the students who go through the program can hack it.

The only downside that I see is that everything is nice. That said, someone goes to that type of outfit and the equipment is MELd and there is no progressive maintenance program, they know what to look for on preflight, but they have never seen it before.

I disagree with your #4 comment. In my class of 74 cadets, only 2 got pilot slots. This was in 1998 however. So take it for what its worth. Timing is everything.

Overall though, I agree with everything you said. Just go in state to a decent college and save some money. I live in Florida now and if I did back when I was in school, I would have gone to Riddle. But since I lived in Indiana during my college years I went cheaper and stayed in state. Do what's best for you, but love what you do.

It doesn't matter...but i think the contacts you make at either school is vital in the success you have in this profession...ERAU probably has a bigger aviation alumni and more coop and bridge programs...i think spirit airline is hiring graduates now...not sure about purdue....meet as many alumni and attend all the job fairs whichever school u attend...good luck
