Hiring question?
I been hearing about all this low time pilot hiring but does any one have a friend that got hired yet. I mean does this industry really have a lack of pilots and is all the news about canceled flight because of lack of pilots just media junk? If its true i wonder how long the hiring trend will last. Im just wondering if its to good to be true. What r my fellow pilots thoughts about this.

at 60% of the regionals...have a pulse and get hired. Literally, im not kidding. If you bomb the interview they will just keep asking you questions until you get it right so they can hire you.
at 20% of the regionals you will need around 500 total time max and have a basic understanding of how to read an approach plate 75% of the time and they will hire you.
at 15% of the regionals you will need close to 700 hours, a pretty good understanding of ifr procedures and 121 regs as well as be able to be technically solid (read, trainable) in a sim and they will hire you
at 5% of the regionals you need close to if not over 1000 hours with around 200 multi, great systems knowledge, solid ifr and regs knowledge and be able to fly whatever they put in front of you in a sim to near atp standards and they MIGHT hire you.
Meet 135 mins and have solid instrument skills and you have a great shot at most 135 gigs flying light twins and or vans.
have your cfi ratings and they will hire you.
How long this will last..one year, ten years, six months..who knows, you might as well have a magic 8 ball because it will be as accurate as any other source you can get this information from regarding this hiring trend.
No easy answer on any of this. How low do you want to go, there is a flying job for everyone and all skill levels. You want the best of the worst..work hard, build hours study hard and be a good stick. Want to get hired by a regional go to one of the bottom feeders (not mesa or go jets...ever)

Well, I plan to apply to Great Lakes and/or Piedmont in a month or so with about 280tt/25-35multi. Do you think that will be enough? I also have 60 hrs of sim time (not include on my total time)

I dont know it depends on the interview and the sim. Two friends of mine were hired at Piedmont not long ago, one had about 325TT 100 multi - the other about 575TT 40 Multi and her CFI/II.

I just read about someone who was hired at PDT with 201 TT and 30 ME on the "other" forum, so yes you do have a chance.
Are you choosing to apply to either of those for personal reasons or are you choosing to apply to the ones you think you have a shot at getting hired at? If it is the latter than I would advise waiting a few to get more hours because this is your job, if 6 months into it you hate where you are and decide to move laterally you just lost 6 months of seniority and you could have used those 6 months to build time for the regional of your choice.
but....if you are deciding between those two because you have done all of your research and that is where you really want to be then have at it. Never hurts to apply and either one of them will interview you.
