New CFI renewal rules
Just doing a little research as my CFI expiration is Nov 30, 2024. I'm not an active CFI but I have always kept it current because I never wanted to do another checkride. I'm a current 121 "line pilot"--that is to say, not a "check pilot".
I'm just now learning that effective Dec 01, 2024, CFI certifcates will no longer expire but there's a short list of activities that will keep them current. My source was essentially this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLEuYYJDhkE
What I gather is that now, if I ever wanted to actively instruct again, all I would need to do is complete a FIRC and submit an 8710 and then my CFI is current again. Alternatively, I could also serve as a 121/135 check pilot to regain CFI currency.
Do I understand all of that correctly? Anyone have any details I may have missed? Thanks.

The TLDR is your next ticket will not have an expiration date on it but you will still need to do a FIRC every 2 years just like you have been doing.
In essence all it really means is they aren't going to send you a fresh new license every two years, it will fade and start to become illegible like my flight engineer license.

You still need to do a FIRC if you are not actively teaching and if you let your certificate (which has no expiration date on it) lapse by NOT doing a FIRC or one of the other recently of experience qualifiers then you will have to take a check ride to get your privileges back. The only change there is a 3 month grace period instead of it being instant death the day after it expires.
