Say, you only have to pay $500 for credits , then you could put the $5000 towards flight training costs. The dispersal dates sometimes can take awhile, it may not be the beginning of the semester. It could be a month or so in. So, it might be hard to do it with just the schools money. Because, it will cost you more in the long run .. if you only get $2750, for semster 1 , that will only get you so far in your flight training and then if you have to wait another 4 months untill you can begin flying again. It will be harder for a new student to pick up where they left off , rather than a cfi taking 4 months off. So, you will prob end up spending more money on review flights in the end.

The total for me in grants is 7000(2 grants), as far as dispersement it will be in two payment for the year(2006-2007) which for me is summer and fall semesters, however hopefully by the time a new semester comes in i'll try to get the grants again. Also my parents who are well off just told me they would be willing to loan me the full amount instead of taking out private or student loans and then I would just pay them back this way I pay 0 interests to them. So I do have several choices I'm most likely going to get as many grants as possible and just borrow the family money.

One thing about my current situation as well as others in my position is coming up with the cash to start flight lessons. However I just got in a lucky position to have grants to help pay. I truly feel in my heart no one should ever be denied an education in which the student has the heart for whether it be an airline pilot or doctor or anything else that they love to do. To further my point there are ton and tons of talented people out there that could be doctors or lawyers but they just couldn't afford the education, so now their stuck doing something that really don't enjoy doing.

amen brotha. I've started saving a little bit of money back for retirement. I told my wife and family that if for some reason I pass away before i get to retirement. I want that money to become scholarships. I wish that for everyone who wanted to go to school they should get that chance. I am in your situation as well. I've applied for financial aid, but I've not heard how much I've been awarded yet. My schooling will begin Fall. I went to the airport where they do the schools training and watched them take off and land with my son today. It was a great feeling seeing his smile go from ear to ear. I hope that he gets a passion for something like I have. I will support him with whatever he chooses.
