I don't follow this line of thought - doing 8/6 does not pertain at all to ILC or DRL positions/progression. It does not help your seniority or company standing at all. DRL is seniority/date of hire, ILC is interview only. And none of the incentive programs mention 8/6...like at all.

The only thing the 8/6 sets you up for is the fact that most ILC teams run that schedule as it allows overlap on both sides of the schedule and the 13 days off a quarter. If you do the 8/6 now, it’ll be a seamless transition to ILC when and if your time comes. I’m not that big of a fan of the 8/6 but I like the fact that it allows you to schedule 13 days off a quarter for each teammate. The downside is that training can get scheduled on the 13 day off period. But I know one commander that does a great job at working around that. The other downside is the 8/6 only gets you to 45 days worked per quarter and you have to burn 4 days of PTO usually to reach the 49 days worked bonus. And for you guys reading this. This all pertains to ILC.

There are ways to get around using PTO to get to 49 days worked via creative scheduling practices, but there are also quite a lot of very senior folks in this program who accrue PTO faster than they can burn it quarterly so they’re working less but still coming out with a net positive PTO accrual. To each their own.

True, but you end up burning PTO regardless on the 8/6 in most cases. There’s more and more junior guys in ILC that don’t have the luxury of gaining the PTO that the senior guys accrue. My team runs the 8/7 and I haven’t had to burn PTO yet. The issue is no over lap on one side of the tour and the possibility of getting extended and not getting the pay to go with it…

It is often very dependent upon luck haha. I have been extended a couple times these past few months due to no overlap. And I have made it home multiple times after midnight, no overlap on go home day, and not qualified for the extra day pay. Again, this is all very dependent up the schedule being ran and the luck of the draw.
