I don't think the argument is whether or not per diem is literally money, but that we don't like hearing about how per diem is part of the salary structure. We all get it, you can usually bank per diem and come out ahead. But talking about it like it's part of the salary undermines real pay increases. "Well they only pay $xx,xxx per year, but we get per diem so it's really $xx,xxx!" No no no. That's not what per diem is about.

Agreed.

Base Guarantee/Salary is the basic measure of Compensation. As well, it is the primary factor for comparison.

It's not what you CAN make ( Overtime/Per Diem etc. ) it is what you WILL make, other factors removed.

That said, Per Diem IS part of the total compensation package much as is Health Care costs/benefits, Home Basing, etc. and does need to be considered.

Look on your W-2...Per Diem amounts are shown under:

" Misc. Non Taxable Comp."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Again, I am in total agreement with your statement above.

Whenever discussing airline pay I have always stated it something like - " Well, my guarantee pay was XXX But, including per diem and about x-amount of overtime last year I made XXX+18k. "

I love(NOT) the Jack-A$$es that justify their less than Industry Standard pay by telling you that they " made Delta wages last year" because they made 300k or whatever.

Uh yeah...Mr Double breasted was paid that on his base guarantee. Mr. Jack-A$$ made it by working 20-30 hours overtime each month and is including his per diem, but conveniently leaves those parts out.

Or, here's an Oldie but a Goodie...727 F/E's ( God Bless 'em, Love a 3 Man Crew ) telling me they were happy because they made " about what a United guy makes."

That's because, even with our sub-standard pay, when they added in their Military Pension of 20k/yr. it was pretty close to United...WTF? Can't fix stupid...

Oh well.

Now I can just be Old and Grumpy and dick around all day having fun on the" internets " with idiots. ( Not directed at you Sir. )

Which makes me wonder: " Have I become all that I despise? One of Them?"

DOH! - So be it then.

I'm leaving the house now. I just looked out the window and, apparently, there is a Whole World out there...(?)

No problem, I work on a sliding scale. Might be a small up-charge. Please forward pics for an estimate.

Isn't Flex supposed to announce new pay raises sometime this week or the next? Hopefully they will be on par or close to NJA. We shall see.

It will surely be a day too late and a dollar short.

Wasn't it Flexjet Phildo that said we would get a pay raise right after the Union was voted out? The latest email claims the raises will be effective after Jan. 1. That just happens to be after peak travel. We will lose another 20 seasoned pilots by then.

So is it worth leaving a regional for FJ? What is the likelihood of getting the CL30?
