Negative battery terminal disconnect. Been using them on cars for a long time, battery won't drain when I am lucky enough not to see Memphis for a few months.

Currently in the pool and curious about a couple things:

1) Rough amount of time between BI and training? 2 days, 1 month?

2) I’m military transitioning from AGR to TR...any military folks have any recommendations on how to navigate the health care options FedEx presents? Wife and a couple kids, all healthy...

Thanks for any words!

1) It has varied from 3 days (finish BI on Tuesday and start first day of SYS on Friday), and 2-3 weeks.

2) Purple plan is probably for you, maybe Gold if you have some planned large medical expenses. There's a pretty good automated questionnaire on the benefits site that'll help you figure that out too.

I am extremely grateful to have received the CJO. I can't thank you all enough, these threads have provided some incredibly valuable information.

As I start to consider preferences for aircraft and base, I was hoping to try and talk to anyone who lives in Vegas and commutes. My initial game plan would be to commute 1st year, then move to Memphis second year. I think my aircraft preference would be 75 or 76 MEM. Having 2 young kids, I'd like to have a some control over my schedule to try and be around for important events.

Is the 75 still the place to go for fastest seniority? Obviously there's the pay difference, but are there any QoL, schedule or type of flying differences between the 75 and 76?

I appreciate the info, I can't wait to start at Purple and will be excited for whatever I end up flying!

I was in the same situation. I went with the 757 and was happy about my choice. First year pay is very close anyways. I think the 757 is the best choice for those wanting quick seniority progression.

You will do mostly night hub turns on the 757. The 767 has a lot more day flying but you may not see much of it until you get a little more senior. I don’t mind flying at night because I can sleep easily during the day and don’t like waking up to an alarm. It takes a while to get used to nights and some never do but you will quickly have the seniority to find what you like to do.

75 will give you a much faster track to holding a line than the 76, but if you live in base, it doesn’t matter as much. The transition to the 76 is only a four day course if you come from the 75 later on in your career. If you want widebody pay and quicker seniority then you may want to consider the Airbus or MD especially if you live in Memphis. MD if want some Intl trips, Airbus to stay mostly domestic.

Welcome aboard! First, not sure how locked into your plan of Vegas to start but if you’re flexible, it may be advantageous to live in Memphis year 1 as you will be junior and on reserve quite a bit. Not a huge deal but with young kids, reserve can be great when living in base depending on how much they are using reserves. My experience was amazing on reserve as a new hire in base (2018), ymmv.

75 will probably always be best for seniority. 76 has a lot more day flying, typically longer legs, and more variety (international, long haul, short haul, day, etc..). Even though you may move up more quickly on the 75, you may like the trips better on the 76 at 65% seniority vs 35% on the 75 for example. Commuting will play a role though I doubt you can hold Vegas layovers either way as a junior fo. Lots of movement right now so you should move quickly. More quickly on the 75.
