First time caller, my question is about timelines with regards to new hires. I'm currently on active duty and have been doing some future planning with the family. My question is how far out will FEDEX offer a potential hire a job offer? (assuming minimum requirements met, interview and the application process was smooth).
For example, let's say I leave active duty in December, and am available to start January. How far back in the year would I know I have a job offer?
Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

That is some funny stuff, well played hunter.
Classes have been filled quickly from interview to starting BI, < three months, not sure of the future, no one has that crystal ball. Apply, get hired, then adjust your life to fit the class offered. Know that you are not alone in your quest, if you like the AD just a little, might go to 20. If it is intolerable, then chart your course and don't look back no matter where the course takes you.

There's no "perfect" way to plan things so that you'll leave active duty and roll smoothly into a class date. Sometimes that's possible, but it relies on way too many things that are entirely out of your control.
You have to throw a stake in the ground with respect to your exit from active duty, put the actual date that you are available to start class on your application, and then have reasonable secondary and tertiary plans if you don't have a newhire class date in a reasonable amount of time.

If your looking for deadheads, especially double deadheads, the 757 is gonna be your fastest ticket to that, MEM 757 bid pack has quite a bit of deadheads in it, Over the last couple months bids, people with a little over a year on property have been able to pretty reliably hold something with double deadheads. Other fleets are probably going to be at least double that. Just for comparison, I’ve been here for a little over 3 years and in the MD, and 76, there were only a few lines with DDH I could hold, probably a dozen in the Airbus, and none in the 777. Until you hit 70-80% seniority in seat, you most likely going to have a reserve line or a VTO that has reserve on it. Of course the more hiring into the fleet the better with this. If I walked in the door as a new hire today and had to pick a fleet, I’d pick 75 for quickest growth, and MD or Airbus for wide body with fastest growth.

As a new hire coming in the MD11 MEM appears to have lots of vacancies based on the results of the system bid. The growing 777 and 767 fleets filled to the 90-95% range. While I know the MD is a “dying” fleet could a new hire expect good seniority and movement as well as trip mix over the next few years?
Good Question!

As many here will tell you, the MD has been said to be "dying" for at least the past 10 years. Lots of new hire slots in MEM, with a few in ANC and LAX as well.
As a new hire your progression will be quick, as I believe the most recent guys hired onto it were up to 55% on bid 20-02.
I made the move with the family to base and haven't regretted it. You want international trips? No problem. Domestic? No problem. Draft calls almost everyday you're off? Yep. This is my experience only, so if someone needs more info, feel free to PM.

ATL remains one of the easiest commutes out there, despite the large number of pilots living in the area. I can count on one hand the number of times I have HAD to drive it in 16+ years for some reason or another. Not even the whole hand. Nap at home, get up and drive to ramp, in AOC less than 3 hours after leaving my house. Lately I’ve only needed jumpseat once every 6 weeks or so due to DH’s.
