Well I just got the email for an interview invite! Pretty excited as I've always been fascinated with the operation when I jumpseat through MEM on occasion. I'm pouring through threads and I kind of know the gist of commuting and understand you're able to build up a bank to use for buying airline tickets when there are deadheads? How does that all work? Are there many trips that have deadheads? Are there ever deadheads on company metal or is it on the pax airlines?

Right now I live in MSY, so getting to MEM would be pretty easy. I probably won't settle here though. HKG sounds adventurous as I'm single. I'm from the DFW area so I may move back there. I know you opened IND somewhat recently. Is there ever talk to open more bases where Fedex has a sorting facility? AFW, OAK, EWR come to mind.

Thanks

Actually, he's in training now for that upgrade.

Only because he was able to arrange a training swap (please lets not open that can of worms again ) If he had gone according to his seniority in the current training letter his training date would have been March/April of '19.

The term you're looking for is "deviation bank".

Default Fighter Specific Demo's

Hey all, these threads are great. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to dudes like me.

I have read through the last year of posts in the "who's been hired" thread and haven't quite found what I'm looking for. I am a Navy Fighter guy a couple years away from having to decide on the Bonus (cue ominous music...). Obviously nobody here can forecast hiring/economy 3+ years out, but I am curious if dudes/ladies are currently getting in the door with stats like mine. I'll basically be at to just above the mins across the board if/when I separate.

For those in the recent classes, have fighter guys been getting in with the minimums? My specifics (forecasted for after Training Officer tour ending in 2020):

~2500TT
~1600 Total Multi Turbine P/SIC (some CRJ time in there pre-Navy)
~1400 Multi Turbine PIC (almost all F-18)

-Will have ATP
-No blemishes wrt check rides / GPA / criminal record or anything of the sort.

Again, not trying to see if people think i have a shot, just wondering if there are people currently getting picked up with my numbers. Thanks in advance and congrats to everybody getting in while the getting's good!

It helps if you are a check airman or standards guy.

Time should be fine, IMHO.

Heart of the envelope. IP/NATOPS check pilot, safety school all a plus, but those quals look solid.

My advice is be ready to bail, but play the game as if you are trying to become a skipper. Lots can change in 3 years. I had plans to bail active duty at 7 years...low hiring numbers and some plum assignments kept me in another 7, then I went ANG. Never thought I'd end up an O-5, but I did. I was glad I never sandbagged those years even when I thought I was getting out. Keep both doors open, then pick the right one in 3 years...

Lots of superior guys at FedEx fresh off the Hornet...start looking to them for sponsors and getting info about the lifestyle. I love FedEx life but there will be a few other options available to you as well, so get as much intel as you can to make the best choice for you and your family.

Thanks Albie/NightFlyer, that's good to hear. As far as "IP" goes, I have been curious about one more thing. I am under the impression that Military IP probably checks a block in the gonkulator for getting an application a higher score; is Weapon School Graduate with a tour as Tactics Instructor/Evaluator given the same weight? Not a traditional IP tour like Tracom/FRS/UPT/RTU but still deep in the instructor roll. Just curious if it is comparable on paper.

Thats all my questions for a couple years till I get closer to the decision, I'll continue lurking until then. Thanks again!

Anyone do the SoCal to Memphis commute? If so, how is it?
