FedEx First Year Info for New Hires...
#1081
This is all short sighted. In the next 6-12 months the majority of seats filled on everything but the 757 will be New Hires @ greater than 75-95%. All of the guys waiting on the 75 as a part of the last Bid will be allowed to train to their new airframes and move in senior to the new hires on those wide bodies. The fellas that stayed on the 75 and new hires that get assigned to it will see extremely rapid progression during that timeframe

I think moral of the story is no matter what you choose, you’ll have some good movement. Just pick what you think you want to fly for the longest so you don’t have to do multiple training courses. Unless you want either the 75 or 76. Then maybe the 75 for quicker progression and a short course eventually to the 76. If you want the MD, 77, or Airbus go for it right away if you can hold it. That’s just my 2 cents.

You think people are leaving the 75 to go to MD FO? Maybe but I bet it’s rare... 777 or 767 sure….

Yes, on this vacancy and the next 75 FO’s will be moving to all Widebody seats (where they’ll be junior and seat locked for 48 months). No Widebody FO’s will go to the 75 though, right?

Any idea when the next vacancy bid is? I should be starting Indoc around the Oct timeframe with an EXTREMELY low SSN so curious what is left for new hires since the fillings of the previous bid, not that I’ll have a choice anyway.
Also, does FedEx have a similar commuter clause like other airlines where as long as you give yourself 2 options to get to work on time you won’t get in trouble if both those fall through? I know you only need 1 FDX jump seat listing, but what about using pax carriers, or if you front end deviate from a deadhead and your flight cancels and everything else is overbooked for the rest of the day?

System Bid 20-02 indicated that the next Vacancy Bid would not be until "the spring/summer 2022 timeframe."
I still see that as a bit ambitious with the number of folks that remain to be trained and the constraints of the training system.
Anybody (New Hire) that gets 777 or 767 will be junior for significantly longer than 757, Airbus or MD-11. Likely for the next 2+ years as we complete this Bid's Training Letter and start on a subsequent Vacancy Bid's training. Training dates have been posted all of the way through October at this point, Peak is notorious for less training throughput, and there are a pretty large number of Eligible Bidders that need training dates.
If I were you, I'd take a 757 slot as a New Hire and be eligible to bid whichever Widebody you'd prefer on the following Vacancy.

Here's how the FO positions filled up with current list pilots on Bid 20-02:
MEM 777F: 95%
MEM 767F: 95%
MEM MD-11F: 55%
MEM A300F: 55%
MEM 757F: 35%
New Hires have been getting assigned to all of these airframes for the last 9 months or so. You can tell which ones will fill up first (leaving you junior for an extended amount of time).
