Have you been to AFW lately? Nearly every parking spot was full my last time through (2 weeks ago). MX guy said they are need more, much more help as they can barely keep up. All the sleep rooms were full at 0100 L.
I think it's a relief valve for now...

Thanks guys,
I guess like most things in life, if you wait around long enough (or in this case, a newbie at the "right" time in the cycle) everything comes back around. I orginially heard the AFW rumor from friends living in the Ft Worth area, and then bounced it off a FEDEX buddy of mine (who, i guess, has been at least long enough to hear of it). I am 18 months out from retiring, looking to get back into the North Texas area, and am interested in FEDEX. So naturally, I was kinda excited to "hear" of possible FEDEX expansion into AFW. This article only fueled the fire with quotes like "The expansion will allow greater flight capability and enable long-haul flights to take off fully fueled under almost any weather conditions, increasing air cargo capacity out of Alliance Airport and boosting business in Fort Worth and the region."

Thanks for the clarification and the killing of yet another one of my hopes and aspirations...

Fast Eddie. The trick about living where you work with FDX is to get paid to DH into the city and paid to DH out at the beginning and end of a trip. In Dallas for example you would get one day extra pay and two extra days off on a normal trip or series of trips. AFW and IND have "big sorts" 4 nights a week vice the MEM 5. So if you lose the DHs you have to go to work more to get the same pay. We work 12 to 15 days a month, so if you live in the city you "commute" to now you can work 10. Living in North Texas is easy for FDX, get the job and live wherever you want. But holding a Dallas line might take a while.

Even if AFW were to become a pilot base, it would probably (at least initially) be too senior for a newhire to hold.
If anything new were to open west of Memphis, it would be the same story. Everyone who lives west of MEM, but couldn't yet hold the double-DH lines mentioned above, would be clamoring for it.
