The internal process has been shut down since March.

No pros can apply. No corporate. Etc...

Ermagard! Pilot Shortage! Hire people here already? No thanks!

Not saying this proper, but the answer is obvious. Why create a shortage to fix a shortage. Personally I think this is short sighted, but that is the modus operandi around here.

It could also be a "robbing Peter..." problem. Every Sim instructor or corporate pilot hired is another opening requiring vetting, train up, lost productivity, etc.

So, those other departments might be saying "this is Flight Ops mess, let them clean it up. They grab my guy, and they are up a fraction of one percent, but I'm now down 3% of my manning."

I also wonder what it takes to get hired. I recommended a 757 Captain with extensive international experience and still no call even though there are some with less experience in the last BI class

Default Internal Hiring Policy ... Avert?

And why honor the Corporate Policy to give preference to Internals? It has always been Corporate Policy to allow qualified internal applicants to apply and interview for any job openings in the company ahead of external applicants.

Losing managers then get a minimum of 30 days to fill the new vacancies.

By the way, I have a problem with the use of "avert" in the linked Commercial Appeal article and the title of this thread. Avert means, "prevent, avoid, preclude." Isn't it a little too late for that?

I heard it is shut down because a qualified internal was NOT given an interview and they submitted a formal complaint.

The process is more tightly guarded than nuclear plans, apparently. Honestly, I bet more people are read into nuclear plans than FDX's hiring matrix.

Thus the quandary. There is no lack of qualified personnel across the industry.
