If you accept one of these bases do they ever buy you a ticket back to the states when you have long stretches off or do you have to get yourself back if you want to go home home?

You are on your own. You can ride the company jumpseat back or try to catch a ride on another airline.

R/T tickets each year for you and family (in coach) after initial 2 year obligation complete.

Initial trip over and return to states is on company dime in business.

Go home? Don't you know CGN or HKG is supposed to be your home?

There's also the trips to MEM for recurrent training which are paid for by The Company. I don't know how the new 9-month AQP schedule is going to affect the frequency of those trips.

Default Foreign earned income exclusion

If I understand the FDA LOA (2011) correctly, you are obliged to use Tax return vendor appointed by the Co.
Can you still use IRS's Foreign Earned Income Exclusion? Or they just make it a wash with GER tax so you end up with the same tax as if you were to live in the US?
Is housing allowance considered pilot's income on ones personal tax return?
Thanks much!

You pay taxes "just like you live in the USA", You do not get the IRS foreign earned income exemption, and things like housing, education, tax prep, etc...are not considered income but rather FDA Assignment Expenses..However your spouse is eligible for the IRS exemption if they work.

If one were to sell one's home and move to an FDA, what state of residence does the Tax Equalization Group use for state filing purposes? Your last state residence; a state iof your choosing, or a default of Tennessee?

So the Co. paid and processed residency status allows the spouse to legally work in GER or HKG?

Yes. Several spouses working in both FDAs.

PPP--I think you can claim any state you resided in most recently. Quite a few guys hang on to their place(s) and rent them, but a few I know sold and went over cold turkey with no stateside house. If the Q&A doesn't answer that I found the relocations folks very helpful and usually fairly responsive to questions.

Does a new-hire have the option to not accept them?
