ALPA is a hugely financed union run by airline pilots and FOR airline pilots. They have the best influence in congress of any pilot group, and the press knows them well. We would be HORRIDLY amiss to discuss leaving this group!

....unless you are the COMPANY.

I don't think you are, but I DO think you are scary naive (!) if you think that some sort of independent union can fight off the hordes of labor attorneys that Fedex employs. Alpa leaves a bit to be desired, but it is by FAR our best shot!
No Hacks Cross window. Just a regular working line guy.

Naive? Don't think so! You think the ALPA lawyers have done well against the company paid attorneys from Ford & Harrison? You think the ALPA lawyers have been successful with grievances? You think our union has spent our money wisely over the past four years? You think ALPA has successfully represented cargo pilots over the past ten years?

Maybe it is you who is naive?!

ALPA is a bloated, self-interested group of non-flying pilots who routinely exploit us, spending our hard earned money, and giving not much more than excuse after excuse why they cannot achieve what we ask of them. Then many of them run off to become managers, working against the very crew members they used to "support."

By far, the two most successful pilots unions are in house unions: American and SouthWest. They don't suffer from the bloated bureaucracy and distorted agendas of a national blood sucking group like ALPA.

This TA, on top of all the other issues over the past ten years (cargo cut out, liberal PAC, anti-general aviation, etc), ought to be enough for this pilot group to dump ALPA!

Organize cargo pilots into our own union that will represent cargo pilot interests.

I'm just a guy sitting at home bored and hate to see any work being out maneuver by management. Whether it's Ford, GM, AA, Delta, FedEX ect.

With that said, did I say something wrong or offended you in any way?

I've met a couple of Yes voters.

One really sticks out.

He's 64 and change and literally said to me "there is no way if this is voted down that there will be a new TA before I hit 65. I don't even care what's in this TA I just want my signing bonus and DSA buy back and then I'm out of here."

You have to worry about how many guys like that are out there.

I assumed (sadly) about everyone age 59 (maybe even 57) or older had this attitude.

I've been surprised to see some who don't feel this way, actually. Those guys are uplifting and understand the thought of bringing the whole profession along, rather than only thinking of themselves.

No, apparently I didn't read that. But I have paid close to 30K since then, not too far off. And I guess if one wants to compare, I will only get about 22K of the bonus after taxes and union dues.

However, it's so late, I've forgotten the point.

I personally welcome non FedEx pilots posting here, as long as they don't pretend to be FedEx. And you don't, so welcome. You don't have to be FedEx to say something worthwhile here.

Met one of those yesterday. He also admitted voting yes for both LOA's without reading them because they didn't affect him and if ALPA put it out for a vote it must be OK.

He was then surprised to learn how substandard they were. SMH

That's close to $315k per year. So without a pay raise, you already max out the SLAB if you have enough DSA hours. About 1200 CH/year isn't to bad.
