Any idea what's going to be competitive when the hiring picks up this year and next?

How would 3500tt, 1000tpic (all 121 jet), ck airmen, ALPA volunteer, community volunteer, 4 yr degree (2.8gpa), 4 yrs enlisted military service and 1 internal rec do?

Considering the fact management won't even tell line pilots when we hire, why do you think they'd advise us of competitive quals?

As someone who has helped quite a few pilots, your stats look pretty good. There are folks in the stack more qualified. The question is who will get called, and sometimes that has a random factor. Additionally, some who are called will not take the interview, or will decline the class if offered a shot at another carrier. I think there is a core of folks who really, really want to work for FedEx. I think there are a host of qualified candidates who will go to work where they either get hired first or see the best long term job prospects. I do not think FedEx is everyone's first choice anymore, and while there will likely always be "enough" pilots who want to work here I think the next round of hiring will not require the super-strata of qualifications past cycles have required. I think there is more competition now and some of those pilots will choose to go other places.

Management is about to announce who the next System Chief Pilot will be (there's no official word on why the current SCP is getting fired?). Will that have anything to do with interviewing/hiring? I don't have any idea ... maybe Albie has his ear to the ground on that one?

No chance if you list this anywhere in your application

does anybody know if there is still the back door way of getting a interview? Meaning if you meet hiring qualifications and you work for FedEx Express moving freight you're guaranteed an interview when the hiring begins? Basically as an internal candidate

I believe the rule is 24 months in any position at FedEx and you are able to interview for any job open at FedEx that you are qualified for. No special considerations given just ask the recent pro's that were invited to interview again after 12 months. Qualified means flight time and I believe current.

Was only 12 months as a "permanent" as opposed to "casual" employee when I did it. Hadn't heard of the change.

I just put this in a post yesterday but - obviously - in the wrong thread. Lots of anecdotal evidence but there is no doubt the pendulum is swinging towards the legacy carriers and away from Fedex. In the last 12 months as hiring has picked up dramatically at the legacies, only 1 guy I keep in touch with (out of MANY) that did want to come to Fedex, has decided he still wants to come here. EVERY other single guy has decided to work elsewhere - for many reasons but not the least of which is the stagnation evident here and lack of hiring (contract tension, night flying, etc are certainly on some pilots minds too). Whilst at the others the advancement is smokin' and the hiring fast paced. Recovering pay & better contracts (arguable to some) and other basing options all helped them make the pass on Fedex decision. Oh and when discussing FDA's everyone of them scoffed at going overseas on 1st year pay... Yes - I know it "could" be the wrong decision in the long run - who knows? And yes - things could swing back again towards Fedex being the "better" place to be. However, we have to live in the now because that's the information paradigm the guys looking for jobs are working in. The reality right now is things aren't looking quite as hot at Fedex as they did over the last decade compared to the legacies. And guess what? Guys see & hear that and no surprise - they are making choices to go elsewhere. I don't see that there's a whole lot more to it. I did Delta for 18 months after 20 years in the military, then ditched them in 2012 to go to Fedex. It's actually where I wanted to be because I lived in Anchorage, plus the other things at Fedex just looked (and generally were?? or are?) that much better than elsewhere. The Anchorage base ain't working out so well but roll the dice sometimes you lose. But to be honest - if Alaska was hiring today I'd jump at that chance over long term Fedex (primarily a basing decision but things are looking up at AK air too, new contract & higher pay). To be honest, if it was today, I might actually have stayed with Delta based on the rapid hiring and hence, quality of life improving, chance at international flying from Seattle (close to home), even though I hated PBS and didn't generally like the passenger business. Esp if I'd been paying attention to how things "appear" to be "at the moment" at Fedex. It's relative - but all things considered the bottom line is Fedex ain't necessarily the king of the hill anymore. Lots of other options at other carriers and a relatively decent future there compared to the past ~decade. And the other reality is none of this gnashing of teeth makes a hill of beans difference if, as it seems, the company just doesn't care....

In my opinion, you should wake up and pinch yourself to make sure you’re not dreaming. Life is Good! You’re an airline pilot, and of the 135 airlines in the United States - you’re employed at FedEx. You're vocation could arguably be better, but it could unequivocally be a lot worse.

Too many pilots are wistful anytime we think someone else has it better because we often fail at being judicious with our perspective. Consequently, we manufacture disappointment. I agree one should never rest on their laurels, but we ought not throw away satisfaction when it’s sitting right on our doorstep.

Yes, we all could have it ‘better’. I’m sure there are Red Sox who are disappointed they’re not Yankees; I feel for them. On the flipside, that can all change tomorrow; time changes everything. Example: You left Delta for FedEx in 2012, yet a pilot hired at FedEx in late 2015 will probably upgrade in the same month as you. That’s timing. Things like that will happen 3 more times at EVERY airline throughout the next 10 years. Some win the initial timing and some lose. But - the clock doesn't stop. There are plenty of waves remaining that have yet to hit the shores.

Let’s not beat ourselves up for not picking 7 49 53 60 64 – 4 prior to yesterday’s Mega Millions. That would be silly, would it not?

Stay still and be happy. You’re where you want to be.
