FedEx Hiring
#2821
Atlas has been a stepping stone for many to FedEx, and may continue to be for a while. However, IF they ever get their contract stuff settled and make some decent gains, and IF this Amazon Prime thing continues to grow, what was a stepping stone could turn into a career destination.
Some there say it will take new management before that happens, and they are closer to the fight than I am. What I do tell folks is going to Atlas is NEVER a bad move for a step up, but it might morph into something better on the way. Lots of good folks have come from there, and I love crossing paths the crews on the road. Hope they get those improvements...

Lafayette(LFT) all month. This is for March which is a 5-week bid month (26 Feb to 1 Apr). Line pays 91:42, works 15 days, 20 days off.
Day one (the blue trips) is a front-end DH on each sequence. You have $371 to get yourself to LFT. You need to be there by about 1330L. Pick-up at the hotel that night at 21:17L. One leg to MEM, 1:32 Block.
You'll get to MEM at 00:09L. End of trip.
.
Next trip (yellow) starts a couple hours later. Show time ~0230L. Block out an hour later. 1:16 Block back to LFT, land at 0440L. You'll be at the hotel by 0500L. Another pickup that night at 2117L, back to MEM at 00:09L, end of trip. The process continues all week.
Last trip (green) is a back-end DH with the same ~0230L show and departure to LFT with the 0440L arrival. Hotel is available if you want it. You have $355 to get yourself home either ASAP on the first flight out or after you sleep in the hotel.

Here's an attachment showing one AM line. Blue is front-end DH, yellow no DH, green back-end DH.

Here's another snapshot of a few more lines without all the details. Patterns of arrival and departure to MEM will be similar. The LFT line above is a pretty senior line. Short single leg in and out of MEM. Nice pattern with deadheads on both ends (other than the last little 3 trip sequence).
Junior trip will have less of a pattern (maybe change cities each trip), some or no deadheads, multi-legs either inbound or outbound, longer legs (so shorter layovers).

Wanted to offer my experience to any military folks interested in or waiting for a call from FedEx. I recently retired from the military with over 2k hrs multi-engine turbojet PIC time and was an IP/SEFE with a clean record. FedEx was number one my list based on their domicile locations and great compensation package. I fully expected to wait for a while to get any calls but the other major carriers called for an interview within a few months of submitting apps. I was offered a job and went to work for one of them while I waited for FedEx to call. I got a PE from a FedEx pilot as soon as that system went live, although I had my app in for close to a year by that point. I just got a call for an interview, over a year after submitting my app. Unfortunately, a re-do on the new-hire lifestyle isn’t in the cards for my family so I’m staying put. The other military pilots I’ve talked to have had similar experiences—not getting a call from FedEx or waiting a long time then failing the HR portion — despite being snatched up by other major airlines in short order. If the PE made any difference then I can’t imagine how long it will take them to call someone without a PE. FedEx is either unable or unwilling to hire experienced military pilots as quickly as other companies. If you’re in a similar boat with FedEx as your primary option, get your apps in early and be ready to wait a long time.

Fedex has a much smaller Pilot group than any of the major Pax haulers and they have largely the same percentage rates of attrition that we do. So it is not personal or biased its just math. We hired <500 guys last year the Big 3 hired better than 3-4x that. Delta hired more twice what Fedex did.
I'm sure Albie can chime in here with more detailed info, but getting an interview here is statistically harder. This company wants/needs competent and capable pilots and if its your carrier of choice keep at it. I can certainly attest that its worth it, but on that I am super biased.
