That's pretty cool Poeman.....Congratulations!! Any idea how much weight FedEx places on advanced degrees and extensive formal academic education? Anybody?

Zero. What does this have to do with flying airplanes?

I understand that Delta uses it as a way to distinguish between thousands of qualified applicants. (I have had the opportunity to fly with a pilot who has never been to a day of college.......man you really can tell the difference.....would not have thought it would have made that much difference but now I see why the majors have always insisted on college.)

It is easy to take your education for granted until you fly with someone without one. Effective and efficient CRM is best performed through precise, intelligent communication and understanding. Granted 4 years is generally enough for most people to accomplish this.

So....the sample you used for this evaluation of higher education was.......one?

Use a degree as a filter? fine, it's a filter. Expecting completion of a degree of no particular specialty to somehow produce good CRM skills and effective communicators isn't very realistic.

My guess is that you found yourself one of the "5%". His failure in CRM, communication and whatever else you found lacking was most likely because he was in the 5% - not because he failed to spend 6 figures on a diploma to fill a square for Delta.

The relevant term is "intellectual agility."

Read back a couple of pages. Everything but MD-11 LAX and possibly 757 MEM. It is quite possible for a grievance settlement that will turn off the MEM 76 pipeline for new hires for a while.

I'm not so sure that's true?

Many years ago I flew with a FDX Check Airman that didn't have a college degree. They thought they were pretty lucky to get hired here!

That was a long time ago ... has anyone flown with another FDX pilot who didn't have a degree in the past 25 years?

WWAR (What Would Albie Recommend)?

On the Fedex Pilot Credentials app, the first page has a questionnaire. One of the questions asks if you have a four-year degree. If you check "no" then it won't even let you continue to fill out the app. So i'd say no to the above bolded.

I've not heard of this grievance - can you give some details?
