FedEx Hiring
#1731
When I was at CAL, we had year 2 guys awarded 737 EWR Captain.
They did fine and the FAA didn't care.
I'm not sure why some Fedex guys get all riled up about this when the major airlines have never cared.

I completely disagree with that statement and look forward to flying with them.
I think those of us who wrote 'new hires' are aware they are not in Basic Indoc today. Technically, you are correct sir Walrus. But, come on man, less than a year on property - they might as well be new-hires considering the stagnation here in the last decade (weren't NB CA awards in 2010-2014-ish, guys with 10+ years on property?).
Of course, this was still just a practice bid. Might it even go even more junior on the final bid?

As to history, when I finished check out in the 727 left seat, I had just over 5 1/2 years on the line. 6 months later, guys with 4 1/2 years were finishing up. Of course, this was the '04-06 timeframe.

Really?! Really?! Like we have never had a position of command prior to FedEx? Most of us have all been Captains at other airlines, or AC commanders at some point. I'll give you that a small few might not have had the opportunity for upgrade, but we all have the capability, otherwise, we would not have been hired.
Annoys the crap out of me when I fly with a guy that talks to me like I've never flown an airplane before. Guess my 11k hours and prior LCA job just don't count here.

Yes, exactly. They'll have at least 2 years on property. That's why it's ridiculous to have some of our outstanding aviators "concerned" over FO's flying with these junior 757 captains.

But, but, but, there hasn't been enough time to fully indoctrinate them into the FedEx way of doing things! They might still be free thinkers. Oh the travesty! 😀

I am flying with one of those guys awarded 75 captain on the practice bid this month . In addition to being a very nice guy and a joy to fly with, he is also a former check airman, standards guy, and has type ratings on 777, 737, and 75/76. He flew at a previous airline for over 25 years until it went under. He would not only be a good 1 year captain, but a solid 2 year check airman.
Don't confuse seniority for talent or ability. I came to Fedex passing on an 8 month A320 captain upgrade at Jetblue, but another former F-15 contemporary went there (we both were given class dates at JB...he also had an interview pending at FedEx but never left) and upgraded at less than a year. He did just fine, despite no 121 experience.
FedEx hires captains. When you get to upgrade is dependent on a lot of variables, but everyone here should be capable. Nobody is here building flight time for their next job. If you are here, then you can upgrade.
